Subaru scoops top towcar honours
Subaru's Forester XT 4x4 has been crowned Towcar of the Year by What Car?, its sister title Practical Caravan and the Caravan Club.
The updated Forester was praised by the judging panel for its handling, build quality and strong engine.
BMW ran the Subaru close, with the 3-series estate and saloon scooping second and third places respectively in the overall standings.
A record 51 cars fought it out in this year's competition. The seven categories included cars from less than £13,500, won by the 1.9-litre Mitsubishi Space Star, to full-sized 4x4s, headed by the Volkswagen Touareg V10 turbodiesel.

Shame the 3 series and the Forester aren't heavy enough for the
average 18ft 1200kg lump being pulled around nowadays.
Not sure how they come to the conclusion that a medium sized
car is towcar of the year. Maybe for an Elise, perhaps.
It's probably the only application that the heavy 4X4s are actually
suited to. Anything really heavy like a couple of horses,
and it's best to get something bespoke or ask Mr Rumsden for an M1
Abrahms.
