Fitted a new K&N panel into a friend's non-Scoob today, and noticed something unusual when I pulled it out the packet.

A couple of small bits of wire from the mesh used to hold the gauze in place were loose on the surface of the engine side of the filter, and would have been sucked into the induction tract had they been left there.

While only 4mm long or so, little bits of metal like that wouldn't be particularly good for your turbo - or indeed the rest of the engine, so from now on I'll be having a good look at any filter I fit to make sure there's nothing there that shouldn't be, and suggest that it might be a good idea for others to do the same.

BTW, before anyone thinks it, this is not a "Don't buy K&N filters" thread, this is the first time in 10 years or so of working with these filters that I've seen anything like this, and I still think they're an excellent product. Just thought it worth mentioning - just in case there's another one out there.
