As far as I know MY98 Impreza Turbo has 230mm clutch disk.
Has anyone replaced this original clutch with Borg & Beck
clutch and know the product number (needed when ordering)?

My local dealer suggested 225mm clutch but I would like to
get the right one QH's catalog says MY97 and newer cars
have 230mm disk ja older cars 225mm. Is it right?

 

Recently ordered new clutch from autospares-group.com. was for a MY95 WRX though, Borg & Beck. Cost 85.34 incl VAT + del. Just tell them what car you got and they will get it for you.

Thanks and I wish I could but I'm in a _big_ hurry. I need the
clutch soon and I live in a country where Scoobys are rare. Local
importer have them in stock (at least the wrong one...) so they
can deliver it sooner. I can't measure old clutch to be sure
because I'm not doing the job myself.

 

John, your suggestion seems sensible now: MY98 clutch
is 230mm and my local dealer wants 70% more money from
it than 225mm...No more hurry Unless someone says
I can use 225mm clutch instead of 230mm

 

I ordered clutch about 2pm one day and got it by lunchtime the next day. The place is in Nottingham and is cheaper than a lot of places.

Don't want to put a spanner in the works but i need a new clutch also and i was thinking of a B&B also. But i called Graham Goode 0116 2440080 and spoke to Ben who said that a B&B clutch is below the standard of a OE replacement. My car is a late MY96 with a transmission code EJ20GNW6ND. You can find this on the VIN plate under the bonnet. He recommended a 280bhp OE STi clutch kit for £302. So i'm non the wiser also and need advice from you guys as to where to go from here.

i may post this on a new thread as everyone seems to think highly of the B&B clutch.

 

I think you will find the B+B clutch is identical to the OE item and at around £100 all in for the B+B version against the STi type at £302 i know what i would do.
Remember unless you are running major BHP or doing full bore launches the B+B unit will be perfect.

I also heard (so I'm not sure) that it would be worth to use
standard clutch plate and bearing but replace clutch cover with
Mitsubishi EVO's cover. It should press the plate harder than
standard and be a plug-and-play replacement (same 230mm diameter).
Does anyone know why I should not try that (except that standard
might be good enough)?

 

Just ordered a B&B clutch kit from www.autospares-group.com

Gave them the transmission code from the vin plate and they came up with the unit. It will arrive on Tuesday.

 

Wonder why...

I've got one of the Borg & Beck units sat in front of me at the moment, for installation tomorrow. Looks fine, and I fully expect it to function as per an OE clutch once in the car. For £85 all in you can't go wrong.

At the end of the day, do you really think the £300 item from Graham Goode is going to last over three times longer, or have over three times the torque handling capacity as the unit Goode's sell?
