Question

Have been offered a second hand example but the guy doesn't know which version he has. It is now off the car so any visual clues to look for?
Thanks

A genuine Hayward and Scott back box can be idenified by the single bracket in front of the rear box,a Janspeed back box DOES NOT have this bracket.

I often get asked this by people buying second hand ones, so I'll try and get some pictures up that show the differences

Is one preffered over the other, and does anyone have a sound clip of each on WRX by any chance?

Thanks.

OK, the definitive guide

Ian is right, our Janspeed boxes only have brackets either side of the silencer and none on the pipework. By the way, our mounts are so strong that I can hang from a back box, when its on the car, so this isn't a weakness!!

Janspeed

Hayward and Scott

The rear brackets have a manufactured seat on them to locate on the rubber hangers. H&S versions have a bend in the rod with a washer welded on.

Janspeed made backbox cases are polished to a mirror finish on all surfaces and the welds are very thin lines. Some H&S boxes are also polished but the seam on a Janspeed backbox is on the bottom and on a H&S its on the top.

Janspeed

Hayward and Scott

There is a part number welded onto the pipe near the flange on a Janspeed made Scoobysport backbox. H&S has no part number markings.

I hope that helps

Pete can hang on the backbox, because he's replaced most limbs with titanium and drilled holes in the rest to reduce his weight for Microlighting ;-)
