Just completed a reasonably long drive (80ish Miles) in STi8 with the boot laden with various clobber! Removed the said clobber when I arrived home and found the stuff positioned in the left outer side of the boot (above the exhaust back box) to be a little warm!

Lifted the carpet and felt the metal bit at the bottom of the boot and it was exceptionally hot! Heat is obviously coming from the exhaust, but this didn't happen with previous scooby's (98MY & RB5) (or at least I never noticed it!). Has anyone else noticed this in 01/02/03MY scooby's? is it normal? I'm a little concerned as I don't really expect the boot to be heated by the exhaust (at least not this much) and the fuel tank isn't so far away!!!

Dont worry about the fuel, petrol need's an ignition source ie: flame, in-order to ignite.

Mine gets warm, but not alarmingly so, IMHO. 4 up with cricket kit in the boot for 120 mile trips, no "issue" - just keep the drinks in a cold box, no real "problem".

My Skyline was hotter, but again, not a reason to run for the fire extinguisher (plus the scoob's tank is under the rear seats).

You could always use heat wrap on the body of the back-box.

Don't keep aerosols like de-icer, WD40, etc. in the boot. I had a Mazda 323 4x4 turbo that had the 'hot boot' issue, causing a can of de-icer explode when I was doing 90 in the outside lane of the M1. The pressure blew the parcel shelf off its mounts, and scared the living cr@p out of me!
