Yes I found that out, the only was is to drive it without the turbo kicking in, but A) its pointless as you never buy an Impreza Turbo for its economy ! and B) the very few times I managed it I was so bored I almost fell to sleep.
Either liuve with it or buy a different car.

Your best off changin gears with the turbo spinning to get decent economy.

This is certainly not true for me, if I 6k gear change and nail it at each opportunity I get, I can visibly see the petrol gauge drop every few sets of traffic lights!

Yet another good reason to fit an AFR meter. As well as the informational benefits on WOT, you can also use it to learn to drive in a style that keeps the engine in closed loop mode as much as possible around town.

Big difference for me.

Normal driving sees around 220miles per tank. If I take it easy I'll get 260 between Shell stations. About 20% difference, if my maf's, sorry, MATHS is right.

Managed 300 miles on a tank. Is that a new record and I wasn't taking it that steady.

Just had a mushed MAF. All better as of today so it's back to sub 200's now. Never thought I'd be so happy to get ****e fuel economy...

Anyway before the MAF went south, I found the best way of keeping a bit of fun going without sending the guage into a nose dive was about half throttle and let the turbo do the work for me. Changing up about 3500ish. Seems to motor along nicely and not that much slower than hammering it.

I haven't found that at all, my usual mpg driving each day abck and forth to work etc is 24 ..... and thats 75% cruising around gently,i know if i was to boot it everywhere it would drop well below 20, this last weekend i did 250 motorway miles and got 31mpg .. which pleasantly surprised me.

Not true here

Usually 220ish to a tank(work/town/playing)

On the way upto the Chester meet on sundy i was @ 201 miles with just over 1/2 a tank left ave speed crusing @ 65/70mph

On the way home(didi have a few heavy right foot moments ) i was @ 320 & 1/4 tank left when i pulled into the services for fuel

Not Bad then

Went for a long weekend up to Shropshire, nailed it up there, nailed it back down with loads of heavy right foot and pulled into the services this morning with the light just on(so had another 20 odd left) and the gauge read 315.Which was nice !!!
Drive around London though and that soon drops...grrrrr bloody Ken...
