You're on the right lines. MAF (most likely) or lambda sensor, possibly idle speed control valve. Unlikely to be wastegate, but check the circlip hasn't come off the actuator arm.

Could try an ECU reset to see if it throws a DTC, but beyond that your best bet is someone with a Select Monitor or DeltaDash.

Cool

I'm not an expert on these things , but this happened to me when I disconnected my battery for a while (ecu reset ).It ticked over like a pig for about a week , then just sorted itself out . I remember doing a search on here and it seems to happen often , and the MAF sensor seems to get the blame as you suggest . Perhaps try a search , but it may cure itself you never know your luck ! .
Good luck
Dave

Having just spent a small fortune having some wor done on my Type-R it has taken all of 3 weeks for something else to go wrong!!

My idle speed has started going crazy once the car is warm. It varies from virtually stalling and then bouncing to just over 1000rpm to being perfectly fine. It actually stalled on me today in traffic (very embarassing!). This only happens like I say when the engine is at operating temp (on the guage in the car).

Please could somebody offer me some pearls of wisdom. I am thinking maybe the MAF, O2 or a leaky dump valve! Hoping its the last one but dont think it will be!

Also can anybody recommend where to take it to be checked? I work in the Wakefield area.

Cheers guys

I had a simialar problem with mine.. never stalled on me though and it sorted itself out..

My MAF seems ok but on high speeds the car seems to loose boost and i'm thinking its the MAF however it works fine at idle..

If you want to try it on your motor your welcome. I'm in dewsbury we can meet up inbetween somewhere if you want... I finish work at 8pm... so after that..

Cheers Franko

I have managed to get it in at the garage 2moz morning at 8.00am. They seem to think that it something else. They are going to look at it there and then. He has a MAF sensor as well so will check that at the same time.

Hopefully it should be sorted by 2moz morning, but if not will definately give you a shout!

Will let you know either way m8.

It just seems to be one thing after another with this car.

When it is running properly there is nothing better, but alately it is just a pain in the ***!

Lets hope this is the last problem or it is definately going!

Cheers

Even though the car is booked in to the garage in the morning, I just thought i'd try something.

I read on one of the posts in search (cant remember which) that if you unplug the MAF sensor plug whilst the car is running, If the MAF is knackered then it wont make any difference. However if it cuts out then the MAF is OK.

Firstly is this true?

Secondly, if it is, I tried this and the car cut out straight away.

Any thoughts appreciated!

No. As a broadly applicable theory it's total bollokcs sorry. Disconnecting your sensors won't prove whether they're 100% or not, it'll only prove/disprove whether they've failed open circuit or not, which doesn't really help you. MAF/lambda sensors don't normally fail this way, they misread rather than stop working entirely, and if they do stop working completely, you wouldn't need to disconnect them to find out, as the failure would trigger your Check Engine Light...

As a general point, removing/reconnecting sensors while the engine is running is not advisable under any circumstances.

BTW, I think you're referring to a thread that saw fuel pouring out the guy's exhaust. If so, the "remove sensor" trick didn't prove anything there either. I also don't think he mentioned unplugging the sensors while the engine was running!

Any thoughts appreciated!
Suggest you leave this one to the garage. It needs diagnosis, not well intentioned guesswork!
