I had my car stolen on Tuesday night/wednesday moring. After days and nights of thinking I wouldn't get it back, I finally got a phone call tonight (saturday) to say it has been found.

The police said that it was actually still in good condition and that I should have it recovered straight away so that it doesn't get trashed.

When I arrived to pick the car up it had a washing machine in the boot. Now did the police assume this was mine or what?

Could they not have bothered going for finger prints or is this too much trouble for them these days?

If they assumed it was mine do you think I should mention this to them or will they be too busy catching speeding motorists, and just put my car down as a crime solved as it has been found?

James,

Got to say your thread seems a touch cynical regarding the last remark about if they can be bothered dealing with your new aquired washing machine.

They've found the car and contacted you telling you to recover ASAP. I agree it's a bit strange that they didn't mention the washing machine, however I assume you own a wagon, therefore it is just possible that they've come to the conclution that you may have left the machine in the car, and hence thats the reason it was nicked in the 1st place.

Let the local Police know about it, they can send someone around to YOUR house at a time suitable to YOU and take fingerprints, in an attempt to find out who stole YOUR car.

Glad to hear there's not much damage to the car and hopefully you'll be back on the road shortly.

Regards

yeah, like thats really going to happen

Everyone knows, theres more revenue to be made catching motorist's doing 80mph down the M1 on a sunday morning at 9am than there is catching burglars and car thieves!

Look at it this way- you are up one washing machine. The poor sod who had it nicked might feel differently though. Usual good work from the Police.

A switched on copper would surely have asked the question "Is this YOUR washing machine in the boot?" and then made some enquiries into a recent theft of such an item and solve two crimes in one.

But as usual, it doesnt sound like they were that switched on, which is a shame.

Well .. it seems that some people cant be pleased. Just be happy that you got your car back in a reasonable state ... lucky you .. by the way , id give the car a going over mechanically or take it down to dealer/specialist etc.. you never know how much it may have been abused while the ***** (insert expletive here) had your car .

Hi James, I can tell you all about useless police!
I had burglary with the intention to take my scoob away.Myself and my partner were asleep upstairs in the house when the burglars got in and turned the house upside down for the keys.Took our mobs.Police were hopeless. They said the police report will be good to get the insurance for the mobs but even after taking fingerprints etc they did f@ck all!
So,find yourself lucky that they found your car.Give that washing machine to the local police station. And,presume that the chapter is closed!
This "Good for nothing" police are too busy to catch speeding motorists on no-risk roads but otherwise, they do b*gger all!

RichiW

I appreciate what you're saying. However, when some low-life attempted to steal my Fiesta (thank god it wasn't the Scoob which was parked next to it) fingerprints were found. They were taken away and the w&nker who tried to nick it found, arrested and sent to Court and convicted. I received some compensation, not enough to cover the cost of the damage, but at least I got something.

This was all done by ESSEX Police, whom most people, including myself, have a very low opinion of when it comes to speeding/GATSO & any motoring offences. Just have a look on the Southern thread on here to see what people have to say about Saturday nights at Southend.

Regards

Thumbs down

This post goes to show how well the police are doing on the public relations front with their current fetish over speeding. What ever your view on speeding there is a dire need to improve the relationship between the police and the general public.
The most common point of contact for the law abiding public is through driving.
Common sense would suggest that a realistic attempt to police speeding where there is a genuine problem/risk would be welcomeed by most. The current draconian policies are alienating so many people it must be genuinely counter productive. Cooperation the police need to help solve other crimes could well be put at risk by a general mild loathing of the police created by these policies that is becoming more and more common.

Hmmmm, if James. touches/keeps the washing machine, will the police pop round the next day and arrest James. for handling stolen goods?
