I have a MY96 sti import.
Just over the past 3 days it has been idleing really eraticly. It drops as if it is going to cut out then goes back to normal. It keeps doing this untill i give it a rev and it sorts itself it out.
Today tho, it did its usual after i started it then on to the eratic idleing. Took it up the road at 40mph in 4th and it seem to miss fire a few times?
Its never done this before. It even does it when the engine has properly warmed up.

I did however, just fit a boot install. Ran my amp power lead from my batery but didnt totaly disconect it. Just took the nut off to put the new cable on.

Only thing i can think of is a change of plugs and leads.

Any advice or cures here guys??

Cheers.
Chris.

Be cautious if it's the Air flow meter or O2 sensor...
An ECU reset could help you and you can read any error code related with the above.

Ok guys.
Got home from work, picked up my g/f, went to hers, back to mines then went to the shops. Was in the shops for about 15mins, came out and the car wont start now!!!
It will start but it just dies. Even wen my foot is flat to the ground it just dies. The only way it will stay runing is if i pump the accelerator very quickly!!! It wont go above 4500rpm.
Please tell me this isnt sumthing major?

Can't tell you want it is with certainty, without looking at the car!

Go with Xtreme's suggestions in order, although I'd also add the throttle position sensor as a potential suspect. MAF sensor misreading is most likely culprit, although the only way you'll find out for sure is either to get a Select Monitor/Deltadash on it, or to put a new sensor on...

Also try an ECU reset as detailed here. With a bit of luck it'll throw a CEL code that'll clue you in to the cause of the problem.
