I am considering buying an Impreza Turbo but I am really not sure where to buy from, at the moment I am leaning towards an import as I think I will get more for my money as long as I do not get a dog!

Dealers are wanting stupid money for UK cars, and I just wonder is it worth it for that peace of mind, as a lot of dealers are dodgy anyway! Buying private appears to save as much as 3 grand for a 1998 UK car, but you have no comeback. There seems to be loads of imports about private/trade (not keen on a private one) and these seem to offer better value. I guess it is just trying to find a decent importer as I am sure loads of these cars are dogs! There is also obviously the insurance problem and servicing (however my local"ish" dealer will work on imports). I thought the flood of these imports would push prices down, does not appear to have with dealers. I also thought with more faster cars being made for reasonably cheap prices (Civic Type R, Seat's etc) the prices of these cars would come down. I guess it all comes down to the amount of risk you want to take? If I was sensible I would buy an Accord Type R (less chance of being owned by a lunatic, probably more bullet-proof) but they look so boring! Just have to keep looking I guess!

Give a Subaru dealer a try ...you might find the price on the screen is a lot higher than the price you can get it for !Catch them at the right time of month or when they've got a few to shift and you might get lucky .

where abouts in the country are you m8? There are many specialists who will do good (read better) work than the dealers & many who will import, have you looked at Newera they get glowing reports from all over the place
Come to a local meet & check out the scooby talent if you need convincing thou

Right time of the month!!

Make sure it's not a female saleswoman if you do go that route because there's no such time.

Just kidding, women are great.

Asleep.

Go import, much lower miles in most cases, faster(if silver)etc.

Wheareabouts are you?

for the price dealers want for used cars you could get a newer / lower mileage car sold privately for less money, then take out a warranty at a subaru dealer for how long you want. much better option than buying the car at a dealership. and pretty much the same thing at the end of they day.

if the car still has remaining warranty from the original 3 year warranty it is cheaper than taking out a warranty when it has expired by a couple of hundred pounds.

They do a check over on the car before they agree to the warranty

meant to add for the price dealers want for a my98 you could get a my00 (last and best looking of the classics) for the same cash privately add the warrnty for circa £500 and you are laughing.

there are some bargains out there you just have to be picky and ready to travel to get the car. This is exactly what a friend of mine did when he bought a uk300 a few months back, saved thousands and bought the extended warranty from a dealer, and actually got longer than what the delaer would of supplied as he bought 2 years from when the manufacturrs warrnaty expired.

im waffling now thats it done finshed i have no more.
