100% down to who's got the most mods in my humble opinion! I'd say that there are more GTI-R's running more power per car (as an average) than scoobys so statistically speaking you are in trouble!!

Not much it it out of the box (if we're talking Classic shape) but they mod up quite well apparently. Either way, you will never see much difference on the road.

They have been around for a while now and the tuners know how to get the best out of them. Given their cheap price many have a lot to spare in the mods dept and most pulsars are therefore flying machines.

I had a long duel with one a few months back on the A406 from west london to east london. I have a MY99, centre decat, ss backbox, forge VTA, clear side indicators, K&N induction kit, ~240bhp maybe? We couldn't shake either of us off - neck n neck really...It was a dry night and no twisties though!

I've had both at the same time, running similar power. The subaru deffinately handles better and is slightly faster above 90mph. Not a lot in it below that.

akshay67, love the spec mate, LOL at the clear side indicators, surely it would be 245bhp with those too?

akshay, do your clear repeater add much bhp??

A pulsar/sunny's engine is much sheaper to tune that the Scoobys

Most in line 4 cylinder engines can be modded on a much cheaper budget than the Scoobs flat 4 boxer lump. Just ask Evo owners!

Chances are most of them will have the boost cranked up and they are like $hit off a shovel in standard form.....

get yourself an WRX Sti, you won't be disappointed. It is the all round performance, on all roads, in all conditions (goodyear eagle F1 tyres) that makes these cars special...

They are rather quick cars but to be honest I've never had any real problems with them..... they just seem to hold me up

A couple of grand will see your car flying past your mate:

Full decat
Get it Chipped (Speak to Pavlo on this BBS)
uprated fuel pump (stop it going bang)
Induction kit (Prefferably with a heat shield, look for an FIPK2 K&N)

You should really give him a proper run for his money..... The gearing of the WRX will help loads

Is an 'out of the box' GTiR not about under 5 seconds dead to 60, with only 220bhp?

A 300bhp GTiR (easy to achieve) will beat a 300bhp Scooby.

You can get a reliable 360bhp out of a GTiR for not as much as 300bhp would cost you in a Scooby (UK model, since they are comparable in the first place)

We should just accept that there are faster cars than ours out there!

rugman,

MY95 import WRX will be 260ps which is 256bhp..! they also have a shorter ratio gear box...

My MY95 WRX with exhaust and filter recently made 262bhp.

I saw a Pulsar make 278 BHP on the Powerstation rollers which I found impressive. But I would rather be in my Scoob round the corners, expecially in the wet!

Rugman, your enthusiasm is evident and should be applauded, but just two things you might wish to address...
1)
i am getting a scoob in a few weeks
cant fault that, you will love it, we all do
but...
2)
Ive never been in a scoob

you might want to at least have a wee go before you part with your cash,LOL
Although as said above, your brand loyalty is astounding
All in good faith mate, all in good faith.

Andy........

the only way they would win is obviously through loads more bhp but if you matched there bhp the scoob would win all the time as they are faster from the factory to start with

My best mate has a GTIR, when i had my scoob we used to race everywhere
I disagree that it costs less to mod a Pulsar to 360 than it does to mod a scoob that far..
My car..
Blitz exh with SS Dp £600
HKS filter £170
Scoobyecu and dawes £100

So £770 and 317bhp 291 lbft...

Hmmmmm... me thinks you wont get a 360bhp Pulsar for that much money??

My scoob had tighter handling than my mates Pulsar, but his car seemed to pull for longer than mine.. It was pretty even with pretty even power TBH..

I could get my Scoob to Launch quicker than the Pulsar (me drivin both)

P.s. I made 419bhp on std internals, try and find a 400bhp non stroker GTIR??

However....
There are LOADS more pulsars pulling 12's than scoobs. FACT!

I owned a Pulsar GTI-R an once past the lag it was a a real kick in the back bit of acceleration, but my mates k reg wrx always had a very very slight edge(barely noticable). I think the sazme could be said of the handling, although mine had the original 14" allya on my mates wrx had 17"s.

I did have people drivin real close all the time tryin to get a look at the badges to see what it was. Also many people do a double take in their rear view mirrors cao the front end is pretty rad with the large scoop !

GTI-R = fun, Soob = slightly more fun

never one to disappoint
....."Oh but a Scoob would murder one throught the twisties"
I think the GTI-r suffered with the same engine strength/reliability issues that the Scooby did at first, only more so.
now tho, people are reliably tuning, i did hear tho that transmission losses on the GTi-r are as much as 25%??
thus meaning that a GTi-r will need to be slightly up on Scoob power for a match, despite the lesser weight.
they were both absent from school on car styling day

Andy......just the `ol tuppence..

Cool

Guys I owned a 300 bhp+ (never put it on the rollers) GTiR.

At the time my mate bought an EVO 6, it was a good old sunday evening and i asked my mate just for a laugh if he wanted a line up....Guess what....i was suppose to be in trouble he said YES, i sh*t it to be honest. Never read up on an Evo so did'nt knew what it could do.

Anyway we both lined up, i had a HKS Digital Boost Controller...set it on 1.4 bar...we looked at each other, my legs were pretty numb, but i managed.

SET OFF...We had a well balanced start, as i got into second i was one whole car length in front and the distance was at an increase, but unfortunatley the dual carriagway came to an end, and i pissed my self lauging. My mate was pissed cos he paid aroung 18k for the evo, but i certainly had a good night sleep.

But coming to the point, if we compare a standard Gtir to a standard Wrx then i'm convinced the scoob would do it over, but its just when u start modifying...u never know

so TASTE IT AND SEE.......

How come most of these "Will my Scoob/Pulsar/Corsa/Fiesta/Evo pee on my mate's Evo/Fiesta/Corsa/Pulsar/Scoob?" type questions seem to be written by people who can't spell or punctuate?

No offence to anyone intended, it just seems to be a bit of a common theme with these threads...
