Hi all
I'm looking at an import impreza wrx sti ra on Saturday, in better than excellent condition, on an (L) plate. Can someone advise me of the things to look out for when purchasing an Import, the seller advises me that the car is in mint condition, and the pictures ive seen do point to that. Its quite well equipped with goodies & looks to have been well looked after. What kind of value would you put on something like this, and where would be the most competetive place to look for insurance, I'm 43 without any claims or convictions.
I would appreciate some pointers from you experienced folk out there.

hmm thats a tough one 
1) I'd get an inspection done by a subaru specialist (or at least the AA) especially as this is your first impreza.
2) Ask what oil has it been run on and what servicing / paperwork it has?
3) What fuel has it been run on. It should be run on Super Unleaded + Octain booster (and you should continue that vien) [unless its been remapped for uk fuels]
4) What modifications it has.
5) Check for white smoke out of the exhuast and listen for "knocking" sounds etc. etc.
Make sure your not paying over the odds for it too ps. when you test drive it leave your wallet @ home or you'll buy it on the spot 
as for insurance Tesco is probably your first point of call (although I can't help too much with that as I have a uk model)

Try Liverpool Victoria for a quote - they've been great for us & they're not too bothered about mods etc & will insure imports.

As for price - have a look in the auto trader - Nice L reg cars seem to be going for anywhere from £5k - £6.7k round here, but get someone who knows about them / turbo engines - if theres anything wrong it will be expensive!
On the plus side, if it's been serviced every 7500 miles & used good oils (fully synthetic) and SUL/Optimax fuel it should be OK.
I drove my first scooby about 2 yrs ago - it was an import turbo & I didn't think it was really that quick. 15 months later & I drove the one I have now & when I got out of it I though awesome - so there must have been something wrong with the first one - glad I walked away.
