As i take my foot off the accelerator, the revs drop and pops are heard from the exhaust, occasionally louder pops can be heard also.

Sounds fine during acceleration though, its a MY96 WRX, SS decat centre and BB

That sounds like overrun pops.

 

Excuse the thickness....overrun?

 

Basically, stop flapping man!! They are perfectly normal and a welcome side effect of a decent exhaust.

I think it is just unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust. If you are really lucky you may even get a flame out of the back.

Now that would scare you.

flames yes give me some of those !!

 

With a full de-cat and a VTA dump valve you can get flames. Not always. I never did with that set up but the bloke I sold my dump valve to did.
