If its excessive speed then it will be the wind catching your wing mirrors..........

Mine sound like Police Sirens......

Yep. At about 120 it's a high pitched hum - lower than a whistle. A bit like blowing over the top of an empty milk bottle (on MY01 and later). I have heard people state before it is the mirrors but if that is the case, why don't MY01/02 WRX's do it also?

If you drive through it, it goes away quite quickly though

According to CCC SEPT 03 IT'S DOWN TO THE BONNET VENT ON THE STI8! tHEY DESCRIBE IT AS BLOWING OVER A MILK BOTTLE.

My 7 does it as well - with a different shaped scoop to the 8

Anybody tried removing the scoop or mirrors to see if it stops?

Fancy trying a Quantum Racing reverse scoop?

STi7's do it too. Scared me sh*tless the first time. Now I just treat it as a cruise control, when it starts humming it's time to back off. On the track / private road of course.

Chel,

If you're on the track then it it's not time to back off...

Front windows near the mirrors may be?
At high speeds as the air passes in front of the mirror enters the window on the front area thus the whistling, if you add a expansion in the elastic crankle (there is already one about two inches) it reduces the noise remarkably.
JIM

Sorry once again for my poor English...
