Gear selection in my MY98 turbo is a bit dogy - crunches a tad if you do it quick - think it needs an oil change. My question is, as it has the 5 yr extended warranty still valid, is this sort of thing covered, with Subaru either changing gearbox oil, or repairing gearbox.

Sorry if in wrong section.

it won't be covered by any part of their warranty, the people that subaru use are right ba$tard$ when it comes to claiming on warranty because they will say if it's not broken they won't pay and as you can change gear still it's ok. they will also claim that it is wear and tear on a 5yr old car but good luck if you try

Go for it, I've had imprezas done twice under warranty, same problem - first it crunches only at 6000, then gets progressively worse. The dealer may grumble, but if you have full, correct history they will do it. After all, synchromesh failure is not "wear and tear", especially as it is a regular problem with imprezas. There is some design flaw somewhere which causes it, it should not be down to the customer - ARGUE!

You tell the dealer it will NOT select any gear intermittantly when vehicle warm, tell them to road test it to hell until they can get it to fail, when they come back saying bla bla its only minor collect the vehicle, take it away and the next day phone them and tell them its failed for the second time etc, should make a nice warranty claim.

They (L**c**ter 7oaks) even had the cheek to suggest to me that I "might like to change my driving style" as it was "not a big problem"

I told them I didn't buy a subaru to drive it like a f*****g daewoo and was a BIG problem. This seemed to concentrate their minds a bit. They did the work at no cost to me (but I did see the bill that they sent to the warranty co - £1300!!!).

If you don't ask (or demand or yell or scream) you don't get.
