worse on the left rear side, someone mentioned bushes? , sounds like the parcel shelf is rattling or the base tube is jumping round in the boot (eliminated that by removing it)...

Any ideas?

seriously, but i get this all over the show in my STi8 but more in boot area...

...having examined the rear in more detail instead of just driving and wanting the annoying noise(s) to go away, I reckon the suspect noise could be the loose and hard plastic moulded lining surrounding the boot. i tapped it a few times and man does it rattle. i believe that is the same noise i've been hearing all along whilst going over semi-rough roads!

i'll be getting some kind of padding next weekend to check if i've hit home! (i don't think it's the back shelf though).

i've got the same problem with a creaking/rattling noise from the rear too!
I first suspected it might be the rear seats, so i took the apart and drove the car without the seats to pinpoint the source but it was still there!
Then whilst driving it without the seat the offending sound seems to emit from the rear shelf,i've yet to have a look at that area and it seems it doesn't come apart.
anyone with the remedy please let us know.

There is a fix for that in the dealers. New top mounts and a couple of spacers or something.

Guys, check out the suspension forums - the STi7 had/has the same problems (it is afterall essentially the same car).

Seems there is more than one cause, some cures work on some cars, but not on others.

I was very lucky in that mine was relatively easy to cure - the bolts holding the vertical braces behind the rear seat were loose, tightening them totally cured the problem. Others have not been so lucky, and last time I checked it problems were traced to the rear suspension.

Have a look in "suspension"
