Question

I have a 2002 STi with 6000miles on the clock. The clutch release bearing seems to be noisy with a rumble. If I idle and push the clutch in the noise goes away, if I release the clutch the rumble comes back. It seems worse when its cold but dont notice it when on the move.
The question is should I get it fixed now before the 1 year warrantee on the clutch is up? Or this a common or not serious problem? I dont want to get the bill a year or 2 down the line for a manufacturing fault. I also dont want them to remove and fiddle with the gearbox unless its absolutely neccesary.

On another note is 6000miles too soon to go for synthetic gearbox oil? It getting cold now and the 3rd to 2nd is getting quite stiff. It seems they want me to pay for it as well. (Why dont Subaru use a decent oil to start with?)

Get it sorted ASAP. This is DEF your release bearing. You are far better getting it done under warranty. You should have no problems getting it replaced.

With regard to your gearbox oil i had mine changed at 25K and should have done it sooner as the service record says 30K.It makes such a noticeable difference to the gear change when you have it changed.
