Cool

Although speed bumps now seem to be part of our daily commute and a growing nuisance they still need to be tackled. How do you approach yours?

Are you:

A Stradler? Wheels either side of the hump for a smooth passage.

50/50? One side of the car on the flat while the other takes the rough.

An Off Roader? Approaching the hump at an angle to ensure at least two wheels have drive at all time.

A Freestyler? (Motorbikes & Push Bikes only) The maximum amount of air is obtained on each hump and possibly a quick mid air wave or table top achieved.

An Eco Destroyer. Braking sharply metres before the hump then accelerating to warp speed before slamming all on for the next.

Nip 'N Tuck. Driving between widely spaced humps.

What Hump? Usually heard inside large offroaders transporting offspring to an from educational establishments.

Hump Master. approaching and clearing the humps as fast as you dare to get the agonising clunk, bang ooohh over with.

Thats all I can come up with. Any further additions? Check out which you are on your way home.

A Citroen driver - drives over at what ever speed they like knowing that self levelling front and rear Hydraulic suspension will sort it all out regardless of hump profile or design.

Ah the age old question rears its head again!

I live in High Wycombe and bugger me if we chose to live on the only road that has speed bumps but there you go.
Ours are annoying as they are the 2 seperate bumps kind that have concrete shaped sides with tarmac in the middle.very hard to avoid and painful as hell if you get them wrong. Problem is if you approach too slow they really make your scoob rise but if you tackel them right as in nipping in between at about 20mph they are ok.BUT as usual there is always some *** of a micra in front doing -10mph who slows down at each bump !!!

just wish they would introduce rumble strips or cameras instead. And to cap it all, the bumps are no-where near a school but 150 m up the road there is a school.any speed bumps NO Go figure....

I believe Speed Humps are the wrong way to tackle the problem of drivers selfishly driving too fast in sensitive areas. The "g" input of even a slow passage over some of the humps puts a high load into the chassis and suspension which will cause unnecessary damage to the car over a period of time. There are sharp edged ones too which can cause damage to the tyre carcases. This could cause a future high speed accident in a dangerous place.

I feel that the answer may be better policing and the use of speed cameras. It is time that the police were relieved of all the unnecessary paperwork and allowed back into the public domain to do a proper job. Control freakery is making their job impossible to carry out at the moment. No responsible person could object to the siting of speed cameras in places such as schools and heavily populated areas with large penalties for those who ignore the speed limits and truly endanger lives.

50/50 if it can be done, always trying to avoid having the lhs of the car near the ground (exhaust ground clearance = **** all)

They are totally gay! Makes me wonder why they have to destroy perfectly good roads when there's usually another round the corner full of holes that could be doing with the tarmac being used productively...

I'm usually an ECO-destroyer, slam on the brakes and crawl over them but they p1ss me off so much that I usually ram the accelerator to the floor once over it. Kinda defeats the purpose really cos you end up driving faster than you would have done otherwise which I suppose is a good thing cos maybe if they realised they cause aggression in people's driving we'd get less of them

I like to try and nip in between the two (ie centre of both carriageways), people look at me all scared but if there is any rise its fairly small and evenly distributed on both NS/OS of car.

I probably oscillate between a 50/50 and an Eco-Destroyer, depends on how bad my day has been!
