Running wthout Dump v/v
What are the advantages/Disadvantages of running without a Dump v/v when you have a FMIC.I am aware that the WRC cars don't run dump . Would the extra volume of air required to fill FMIC reduce shock loading of Turbo when applying throttle after gear change.

I dont imagine whether you have a FMIC or not affects the need for the DV. Its there for 1 reasons, one to keep the turbo spinning by allowing a passage for pressure at gear change (and hence, it stops shock load on the bearings)
It sounds nice with it blocked off, but its not designed to take that sort of load...

I think im right in saying that the rally cars have 360deg barings in the turbo but ours dont so without the dump valve the turbo will pull its self apart...well it wont last very long but then neither do the ones on the rally cars but they can change them when they need to.

Thanks Guys .These are the answers I had thought of already and I am still not fully convinced.
However I won't be experimenting.(Not after having to fork out for new engine and Turbo....Eeeek!)

The bearings on VFs are not reputed to last long if used without a DV. And for a road car it will just make it horrible and jerky even if the turbo would stand up to it. It is bad news to have a compressor wheel explode into your intercooler believe me.
i ran without a dumpvalve for ages and it seems to pick up better and sounds the ****, i used escort rst cam lifters to blank off the pipes. Have refitted now though to try and sort a bloody boost leak or summin
