I am unfortunately thinking of selling my RB5 and buying either an Evo 6 or 7, Does anyone have any information on these car or have any links to any informative web sites?

Many Thanks......I hope I am making the right descision, I love the RB5 but the time seems right for a change.
I was at Jap Fest on Sunday and the Evo's looked so sweet - only counted 3 RB5's including mine..where was everyone ?

funny that....thats the same response I got on the RS Owners club web board when I said I was thinking about selling my Cossie for an RB5.
If the Evo isn't to my liking I'll soon be back for a P1 ! - In fact if I could afford it I'd have both !

Go for the P1 mate, thats exactly what i did!
Smashed up my RB5 back in November last year, toyed with the idea of getting an EVO, had a look at a few but in the end chose the P1, glad i did as its a better car than the RB5 and certainly turns peoples heads!
Am not saying that EVOs dont turn heads, they are great cars but just werent for me. I needed something that i could travel back and forward 75 miles a day to work in, dont think my wallet could have stood up to that with an EVO!!

Take out a couple of EVOs and a P1 and see which you prefer, whatever you do, happy hunting!!

If the Active Yaw Control unit goes it wil cost you up to 3 grand.

Be careful when you buy. Plenty of pups out there.

Try to get full mitssubishi service history.

Agree on the costs point - my local mitsi dealer printed out service histories on several evos so I could compare costs - answer every service is at least double what it will cost you for the more infrequent services on the P1. YOu dont have to go franchised though.

I'd suggest your brother takes his car to another place. Had my clutch replaced for £400 (my flywheel was fine, though it is often a problem ) and got a full set of pads for £150 changed them myself.

If the Active Yaw Control unit goes it wil cost you up to 3 grand.
Mine went through a fault of my own doing, cost me £600 for a unit and £150 for fitting. these units DO NOT go easily if you stick to the servicing intervals! 4700 mile change of AYC fluids only, this is generally charged at £90. (not a full service as some would say)

Be careful when you buy. Plenty of pups out there.

Good luck in whatever you decide, for me i'd done Scooby fancied a change (as I think you do) never regreted it once, dont even miss the flat four burble.

Drive one and make you own mind up . If you have a fairly standard UK impreza you will be blown by driving the EVO.

If you have a heavily modded UK or a full power JDM car you maybe not be so impressed or blown away. Have good look around the interior I was wasnt terribly impressed with the E7 I looked at very dark and plasticky. Must admit the exterior was very agressive looking but prefered the E6 exterior wise but couldnt get an E6 new .

Biggest problem you will find is finding a big choice of second hand one and be prepared to take a few months to find one unless you are looking at a new one.

It was obviously my local dealer didnt sell many as they knew very little about the cars but that wouldnt be a worry as it would have gone to a specialist to be worked on.

It was going to cost me 10K + my car for a new E7 and I didnt think it was worth the swap so I left it but that just my opinion. The best opinion is your own and the only one you should finally listen to .

Prob some cheap competition pads (pagid?) so please dont misinform!

If you can run the bugger on the cheap then fair play since you prob have all the MLR contacts but if you use proper mitsu parts then it will cost you....thats all im saying.

My Brembo brake pads were £280 all around, and thats from a fairly typical motorsport garage. Not cheap, but not £500! How much do scooby pads cost?

after being at the japfest on satarday i to am thinking about buying an evo 7, i have all ways loved the evos but just had to own a scooby, now thats out of my system may be its time to move on i was just totaly blown away just how fast they where laping.
But need to do some looking around and speak to some owners to get some feed back about the car

Some crap as normal comming out here with regard to Evos

The OEM pads are very expensive, around £400 yes, but, when i was having my Evo6 serviced at the Ralliart dealership, they recomended Brembo pads (but not the OEM part no. ones ) which cost me £150 fited! As for 'cheap Pagids' eh??.. one of the best high performance pads available for the Evo!! I now have Ferodo DS2500 pads which cost me £140, i fitted these myself, and they are better than any of the previous pads i've had in for everyday use (the Pagids were abit noisy).

Clutch as Crypt states, around £400 for an uprated AP or Helix, you will pay another £300 if the car needs a flywheel (common if the clutch has been slipping).

Servicing your better staying away from dealerships(mainly beause of service and experience rather than cost) and using the specialist route if warranty isnt an issue.Cost wise..

Small service 4500 miles £166.04
Medium service 9000 miles £218.91
Large service 13500 miles £418.19
Exceptional service 45000 miles £662.44

All prices include VAT!

Fuel wise, steady 70/75mph you'll get 30mpg and at 80/85mph 26mpg.Spirted driving will see you low teens.

I've had a Scoob, a MY98 Terzo, loved it to bits and still do, but could never go back after having the Evo, though each to their own.

Isnt 30mpg a touch optimax-stic.

So you will never ever buy another scoob what are going to do when they discontinue the EVOs . I never say never just incase something better comes along and I have a open mind to drive anything .

Or did you mean you could never go back to your 98 UK turbo. If so I agree with you I couldnt go back to my 98Uk turbo either and as the RA is easily as quick as an E7 I would be in the same boat.

I think Rich answerd that rather well.

Anyone can have MLR contacts, some peeps can be friends with repritable tunners.

I think you'l find most peeps use aftermarket bits regardless of the car.

I went from a P1 to an Evo

I would say that the Evo is characterless in comparison to the P1 but I bought the car as a basis for a project & not to pansy around town in worrying whether I "look good"

As I dont use it every day (havent driven it for over a month ) I prefer the "hardcore image" of the Evo - yes its thirsty, yes its a harsh ride but when you start pushing it it feels so much better (IMHO) than the P1...

Compare on saturday - you could even without looking at the laptimes see the Evos were soo much quicker around CC not all of them must be better drivers than you guys

I dont think I would go back to a scooby unless it had had some serious money spent on it...

oh & Evo's are less likely to go pop if you start tuning them

I have an evo Vii, and I love evos and scoobs. I have had a few performance cars and the Vii is the best so far.

My view is simple...both the scoob and the evo execellent cars, and it just depends on the individual as to which on you would like more.

The only thing that took me towards the evo was that they are a lot rarer on the road...you only see a few a month. Scoobs tend to be more popular and you see them daily. This gives it a bit more wow factor.

If that was not an issue then it would have only come down to service interval and purchase price, in which case the scoob would have won hands down, and I would own one now!

I love the evo VII and after 8000 miles of enthusiastic driving I have had no problems yet (touch wood).

i've been having a bit of a re-think, although I love the RB5 it's got to go as i want a change. I am now swaying towards a P1, but I also love the Evo's but which one 6 or 7 ?? Help - I think it will come down to which one is the fastest and if I manage to find an unabused example
