Is it me or are horseboxes and caravans our worst highway enemy? I encounter one or the other regularly when out on the open road and boy do they spoil your fun. Okay, you can power passed when possible, but the majority of the time these "obstacles" are on my favourite section of twisties® and its unsafe to overtake [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

My goodness, fancy having to share the road with other road users!!!! I find it criminal.

 

But the point I made was that these things just spoil your fun when trying to breeze along your favourite piece of road. Horseboxes must be the worst as I got behind one yet again this morning [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

 

i do agree to some extent, however these people do actually have the right to use the road just as much as anyone else.

It is getting to the point where public road driving is no fun.

Only 2 hours ago there was 4 cars smashed up outside my house. A dozy old bloke steered his Boxter through our wall smashing windows with bricks, another car followed him but disappeared then a girl span off going the other way and sent an unsuspecting lad into a fence to avoid her.

Hmmm!!!

 

Horseboxes and caravans make us go slower but so too do speed cameras and "Ted and Doris" in their Nissan Micra. Maybe its time to sell the Scoob and buy something more suited to relaxed driving and maybe adopt a different approach (damn boring though). Congestion is a problem today, I can remember the days when I was the only driver on the road (A road). Happy days.....

Well, I have an STi7 and a Foutrak/Horsebox train, so I drive both sides of the argument

As it happens, I try to pause the train at the edge of the road if there's a queue behind me and a suitable verge/driveway/road-splay or whatever. It costs me bugger-all time, 'cos I'm going slow anyway, but - and this is an important but - no way am I going to anchor-up to do it (having injured a horse when my Audi A4 brakes bit too suddenly). Do I get acknowledgement? - do I hell!!

Horseboxes are often easier to deal with.... we drive slower than most caravanners 'cos our cargo is more than just wood-and-metal: indeed, it's our best friend. So, when I'm in the STi I'm more sympathetic to horseboxes than caravans...

But, then, I would be wouldn't I??

I always wave thanks to slow-towing vehicles when they pull over to let traffic past. Its such a rarity for them to pull over though

Shame old fossils doing 40 in a 60 dont do the same.

I agree with the sentiments, particularly those regarding the shed draggers who seem to clutter up the road in Summer and unfortunately too many horsey people are b***dy arrogant and seem to expect everyone else to exist around them. But then, this applies to the majority of road users.

 

These are two completely different things - Caravan owners think they have the right to cause a tail-back so that they can save a few quid on a weekend away (rather than stay in a B&B). Horse owners are often going to their equivalent of Japfest so at least I can manage some empathy there.

I've never had a caravan pull over to let me past - plenty of horse owners have.

Horses are cool. Caravans are for Gypsies.

Every time I get stuck behind another vehicle it has the Rover badge and cruises about 10-15 mph below speed limit except for speeding up when ever there is half a chance to overtake. I've heard of Relax in a Rover but half these old codgers have died in them IMHO [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

 

Not as bad as some old dears in their Nissan Micras. And the 40 mph EVERWHERE brigade. Now they do make me mad

Well I've just had a fair old shock over the last few days. A Range Rover and a 205 have just gone through the hedge opposite my house to add to the four cars that crashed outside our door on Saturday. In total there were 5 different incidents in the rain, with only one driver not to blame as he had to avoid a spinning car.

Britain's roads are getting worse and worse, I very rarely enjoy driving any more and these last few days have capped it.

In addition to these accidents a guy I knew was killed at the weekend on the road and two people were killed when they lost control and hit a HORSEBOX coming the other way. All within a few miles of where I live. I am saddened by this and feel so sorry for the families of those concerned.

What the hell is happening to our roads?!?!?!

I think I am going to start going to work on my 103 year old traction engine which does 5mph and have a big red flag to warn people.

 

 

It's a sad state of affairs our once Great nation is in. This rings very true with me. It beggared belief when I got stuck behind an effing P Reg 216 SLi tonight doing exactly as mentioned before but this time meandering from white line to kerb constantly - no way past whatsoever - this would drive me to chance it with a hedge frankly if I thought I could come out the other side in front. I've heard of defensive driving being a good thing but these silver haired ******* seem to make their Rovers wider than Montoya with a Shoe Maker up the ****
