I have the oportunity to by a damaged sti, however as it is from a salvage yard i do not know how to find out if it is a uk or import.
can anybody advise?

Sounds like an import to me as the STI Uk werent available that early IIRC. They were released in Japan a lot earlier than in the UK.

 

Just had a look first STI type UK appeared as '51' reg models.

 

Look under the bonnet and see if it's all in japanese?

 

The Euro STI and UK STi were announced at the September 2001 German motorshow. If its an X reg thats means its a grey import .

If its a classic shape and STI then its an import. Upto and including the STI version 6 they were all grey imports. The new age STI was the first UK STI available (known incorrectly as STI7), of course even a new shape maybe an import. What year is it may give the game away ?
