Have been looking for a quickshift gear lever for my early WRX and found one for £41 from Rally design but have no idea how they compare to the likes of B+M etc which cost a LOT more! Anyone got one fitted and how do they perform?

I could be wrong. I quite often am. But a quickshift is a quickshift. The B and M may have a fancy aeronautically engineered shaft or whatever but the Ral Des one will do exactly the same job. I'm not sure if the B and M ones are adjustable or not but they are VERY dear for what they are. I just got a second hand Prodrive one from Grade A for £50 and its great. Really makes a differance to the feel of the gearbox.

 

MIght put one on my birthday wish list then and be the first on here to give it a try

 

I bought a GGR one off here for £40, and am very pleased with it.
The guy who sold it me replaced it with a B&M, and he said the B&M one MIGHT be a bit smoother, but there's not enough in it to warrant the extra money.IMHO, of course!

I was also considering one of these for my MY98 but they hadn't been made yet. I dont think you get a gear **** with them like you would the B&M but as long as the original fits there shouldn't be a problem. Seems very good value compared to the others and when the later ones are available I will definately be trying one.

All you get with most is the gear lever part. Basically the bracket that the gear linkage connects to is moved further up the gear lever, which in turn shortens the throw. You remove and reuse the plastic ball joint that holds the gear lever in place, together with the bushing that the gear box linkage connects with from the OEM part.

Some of them require some mild trimming of the steel sound (at the front left side) that fits over the square rubber boot to fix it in place over the tunnel.

A cheap and worth wile mod. Some say it can take up to a second off the 0 to 60 time....

 

Scott - as per my first post, they are £41. I know Rally design are very cheap for samco hoses so I don't think it's just a case of cheap goods, just sensible pricing and not fleecing scooby owners like some other companies seem to do

 

And in the latest Rally Design catalogue which was in the back of a ccc mag they sell them for '98s too!!
Very worthwhile mod if you ask me, much more positive gearchange now.
They are easy to fit too. Remove the gear gaitor, then unbolt the shifter from the linkage. Get under the car and remove the circlip from the base of the shifter then get back inside. Pull the shifter out, remove the o rings from the base, pull the ball joint out of the plastic "bucket", put the ball onto the new shifter then get like Mr Haynes........ reassembly is the reverse of removal!

 

Oh! well will have to get one then....
just when I thought I'd stopped spending for a bit.....
