Question

Gents,
I know this is quite a common problem and there have been quite a few posts on the subject already but I'd appreciate a bit of advice.

I've just bought my first Scoob its a standard 23k mile MY2000 wagon, and I'm going down to the dealer tomorrow to have any warranty issues sorted on the 3yr maunfacturers warranty before I extend it.

What I wanted to know was, out of all those people who've had the '5th popping out' problem, did the nut tightening solution fix it? Or was a full gearbox rebuild necessary?

Don't want to get fobbed off at the dealers with only 4 days of warranty left.

Also, the centre cubby lid wobbles like a wobbly thing, any quick fixes for that?

Cheers
Dave

Apologies for not posting in drive train straight away, wanted as many views as possible.

5th gear nut tightening did the job for me (MY2000 car also) - no problems since.

And my centre thing doesn't wobble Maybe you can tighten a nut in the mechanism?

Hope this helps!

Cheers

They replaced the synchro and a worn selector bush on mine also.

Good luck

Cheers chaps,
It's sometimes difficult to get it into reverse without double de-clutching as well so I presume it's all screwed and it'll be at the dealers for a fair while!
Glad I got one with a warranty now!

Well it's me nuts that need tightening, that's for sure!
That and a few other bits will all soon be a thing of the past thanks to a helpful service chappie and your helpful advice.

Cheers

Glad to be of service and glad to hear that they're sorting it all out for you.

Interestingly, I actually got mine done under a Motor Warranty Direct warranty (EU import so only 1 year warranty originally) and it went through fine! So the extended warranties are sometimes worth more than the paper they're written on... in my case several hundred quid...

Cheers

I had the same problem. My Scoob (UK MY99) used to jump out of fifth gear and reverse was hard to select. I had a new 5th gear unit fitted under the warranty It was also suggested I could solve it by getting the gearbox main shaft nut tightened (they have to split the gearbox to do this).

Hope it helps.
