Well another big thanks to David, and my mate who owns a rather large garage and gave us access to ramp and gearbox stand etc.
New uprated crutch and lightened billet flywheel installed today.
Started at 1:30pm and finished at 6:40. Bit a bujer TBH, dont want to do that again IMO.
Anyway, big thanks, car er... flys

Having now driven the car for 90 miles, taking David home
, instead of nailing it like i did yesterday, i just drove normally, and TBH as a driver if the car, the car feels to run a lot smoother.
the response on part throttle acceleration (no boost) is superb, just seems to respond so much smoother/quicker. I can feel it, as i was expecting it to make no difference at all, that way i know its not a physcological gain.
I have power again in 3rd 4th and 5th, without slipping, and the clutch pedal feel is just like normal. very impressed.
Will post pics up later on Tuesday, quicker link.

when I say no difference, I meant the Idle wasnt effected.. no downsides..

Wasnt that bad a job to do due to ramps.. but kept banging my fu1king head on the supports for the ramp.. covered in bruises..

The clutch and flywheel were purchased through scoobyshop, from Lateral Performance.
David, no problem, i was dying
, Stella, Tetleys, Guinness, Foereign Lager of some sort, then Stella again, do not mix
. No worries about the bottle, if you didn't drink it, then no one else would

the book states it should take 5 hours..
we did remove lots of other bits that we didnt need to..
Oh and if you want a race to change a box.. bring it on..
Youll need to be quicker than 1 hr though..
Want proof?? watch at ten of the best.. when I may change from a fancy autobox to a 6spd..

David had a numptie like me working with him. As i have never ever done a clutch before, David had to keep telling me what to do next.
When i am unsure as to what to do, i work very very slowly, ask David
.
However, putting it back to gether took a lot less time, under 2 hours, and that includes tidying up (not my garage), finding tools i had thrown in anger
, and then refilling the gearbox with oil.
Filling the gearbox was an a555 TBH, took about 20-30mins, there appears to be no way for the air in the box to escape, so very slow filling.
Anyway, i am chuffed, as i can now say i have taken the gearbox off MY car, and changed the clutch
.
I reckon with no probs, we could half the time, easily.

Nice pics, its always cool to see what the the stuff under the power bulge looks like. Sorry to hijack the thread a little but I have just had my clutch replaced during its 60,000 mile service with an AP organic one, I also got the 'release bering' replaced. Anywayz my question is; The car has stared to clutch 'judder', aseptically when cold and finding the bite but also when changing form 1st to 2nd slightly. Is there a running in period for things to settle down? or should i take it back to the garage? I've done about 200 easy going miles on the new clutch now and still no change. I was lucky b4hand as I never suffered form the 'they all do that sir, jjjuddder' The car is a UK MY98 Thx

I am planning to change mine on the 17th.. although my father in law is now saying he might be busy on and off so it might be me on my own.. then wait for him to return before removing box and then refitted etc..
Will be on axel stands though! doh..
I shall print this off for reference..

As it was only fitted about 6,000miles ago in your garage it might well come off.. I just hate the flipping job of removing it now..
Perhaps I should remove it to elimenate the demons!

Intercooler piping partly moved out of the way, and David removing the heat shield for the turbo, so we can take the downpipe off.

Clutch arm on top of gearbox

Intercooler piping removed, and heat shield removed

Under trays removed and bottom of gearbox showing, 2 drive shafts to front wheels.

Passenger side front drive shaft, you can see the dowel that needs to be removed so that you can pull the drive shaft off the gearbox.

Car on ramps, whilst we have a chocolate and drink break

Passenger hub/strut removed from wishbone.

Once above done, just pull on the hub and the drive shaft slides off the gearbox, like so

Starter motor removed, see hole at top of gearbox.

Propshaft from gearbox to rear diff removed, one piece item I think on my car.

Looking down transmission tunnel, from back of car towards gearbox, piece of rag where the prop shaft locates, Hyper centre section on the left

With a bit of brute force using the wrong tool, someone nicked the hammer we were using
, we cracked the gearbox from the engine, you can see the small opening in the middle of the picture.

Gearbox off, and you can see the clutch arm.

Gearbox on axle stand, thank god for that, they are barsteward heavy

OEM Clutch and flywheel still on car.

OEM flywheel still on car.

OEM Clutch, David thinks it was warped as the inner 1 inch was considerably glazed.

OEM Stuff again

OEM compared to new clutch and billet lightened flywheel (new are the 2 on the right
)

New clutch and flywheel on the car, now just to put the car back together.

Amazingly, we only ended up with 3 spare washers after all this
