On going Legacy thing

removed old diff, changed over the drive flange
diff differs slightly:

Old diff, remove the roll pin and remove drive shaft and CV joint leaves a small drive stubb coming from side of diff.

New diff, no roll pin and CV joint also contains stubb that goes into diff
New diff from P1 old diff 92 legacy

So what do i do ?

Ta

I'm quite sure those stubs come out. Do a search as I know this very issue came up recently, Ian (UKlegacyT) fitted a WRX box and diff into his legacy.

I am not sure they do come out. I think that it is some models have a diff with stubs ( earlier legacys ) and later diffs, and imprezas have driveshafts with stubs that go into the diff. Ians car was a very late Legacy. In saying that however, on Michaels car which is 1990 RS ( jap model though ), it had an impreza style diff, although not sure it was the original, but again, when we put the P1 box and diff into the car, it did require the use of matching rear shafts ( which we got from an STI wagon MY00 ).
Also, from memory, are you swapping to the P1 box and diff you mentioned a while ago husky?? If so, you will most likely need the appropriate rear shafts for the diff, which would be a non VC LSD, again requiring different shafts to the normal impreza.
I think, and it was backed up by someone else here in another thread( possibly started by David ?? about diffs or something ), that you can cut part of the normal impreza shaft to use it on a plate type LSD car, such as a P1, or an STI.
Also, as I mentioned in another thread, remove the diff driving flange gently, ( impreza and legacy driving flange are different ) with a puller if possible. Dont hammer it off !!!, or back on. It is possible to do damage to the bearings etc.

You also need to use the Legacy rear diff cover, as it has longer/shorter mounting studs...cant remember which.

Yeah its the P1 box and diff.
I did remove the diff flange gently with a puller and have changed the rear cover, am going the the drive shafts that came with the diff, am glad I bought them now

Its a nightmare trying to get it all back in, need to remove the BIG bolt from the lower rear suspension so I have enough room to get the driveshafts in.

same way as the right hand one ???

If you can undo the large/long bolt that goes through the 2 lower arms, then it should allow the hub to move away far enough to pull the shaft out. Might also need to undo the lower trailing arm bolt.
I think you can get away without undoing the strut, but cant quite remember.
