Anybody out there had the EcuTek treatment on a bugeye? I have an 02 WRX and am looking at the decat ECU route. Any info much appreciated. Also, I have heard that induction kits don't perform well on the scoob and to stick to high flow panel filters is this true as surely a free flow filter minus oodles of pipework/resonator box is far less restrictive to the engines breathing??

 

I can confirm that having a full decat and Tek3 has transformed my car. Accellerstion is very agressive in all gears. There is a huge increase in torque making overtaking easier, usually in 1 gear higher than you normally would. At PE last week car produced 282bhp with 276 torque as a nice flat line between about 3000 and 5200. Peek power at 5830rpm. Mail me if you want and I'll send a copy of the plot.

Being interested in peoples thoughts on EcuTek, after driving Grahams car at TSL with a Motec controller,I was blown away of how easier the car is to drive, best way to describe it is a large naturally aspirated car ie no waiting for the turbo to kick in etc.
Does the EcuTek re map offer a simlair driving style ?

I had an STI7 with full scoobysport decat and ECUTEK.
At PE I got 340bhp and just over 300lbs torque.

SO yes, I would say it was brill.
Drove a PPP STI7 and did notice a difference, mine pulled alot better, and didn't cost £2000

Same predicament, I too drove Grahams car with the MOtec and was well impressed. However I'd read that unless you were going for extensive mods the Motec was overkill. Other things that put me off was the price and the fact that it won't talk to my SECs (chip upgrade well overdue!) and on top of that you'd have to put the OE ECU back if you needed you Subaru garage to run a diagnostic (only 10mins swap around time though to be fair, according to Graham). Therefore I figured that the EcuTek option was better for the money and retains all the nice factory bits like good cold/hot start routines etc.

You have seemed to come to the same conclusion that I came to ie too expensive at £2K and was possible overkill for what I wanted it to do.
Was interested if anyone had driven both an Motec equipped car and and EcuTek equiped car and the driving differance between the two.

My cars kinda similar to yours, but your bhp seems much higher than mine.

Mine is STI7, c/w full decat Magnex freeflow system, got remapped via Ecutek at PE a couple of weeks back, and I got 311bhp.

Maybe you have a bigger turbo or something else?

The Ecutek will perform as well as the Motec, driveability wise and performance wise. Offcourse it depends on the mapper but a good mapper will get the car driving as well as the Motecced car.

With the Ecutek you will retain your cold idle, hot and airco idle qualities as how it came out stock, whereas with the Motec it is hard to get the idle issues perfect. For what you are after the Ecutek gear is more than sufficient and it is cheap.

A friend of mine has Motec in his MY00 and I have a Tek 3. I have been in his car and I can say that mine feels that little bit smoother. He has idle issues that are difficult to sort out whereas my idling issues are perfect.

John Banks has I think over 380 hp with his Tek 3 and other mods, so the Ecutek stuff can go a long way for after market mods and power.

IMHO go for Ecutek.

Nope every thing else standard on the car apart from the panel filter ITG.
Was mapped by Pat at scoobysport, first UK one that he had done.
Took a couple of goes to get it right but was great.
Merv at PE seemed impressed.

 

Pat @ Scoobysport is the man for mapping your bug/blobeye WRX. He mapped mine to 285 bhp and 279 lbs. EcuTek is so much better than anything else around at the moment in my option. Go for it - you won't regret it.
