Just looking for a bit of advise regarding my next considered next mods.

I run the above car with a Dual Pump Water Injection System that is controlled by a Unichip. I have a Blitz Nur Spec R and a ScoobSport D/Pipe.
Boost is mapped to peak at 1.45 and holds 1.2 until it is backed off over 6500rpm.
Current figures are 310bhp/300lbft

I am looking to now opt for a FMIC in addition to the WI, to try and get more continuity for temps . Firstly is this a worthwhile choice baring in mind I already have WI and also the factory fitted Intercooler Water Spray?

Also if I go for the FMIC will I realisticly need to change the VF28 due to potentially lag?

I do intend to also do away with the Unichip EBC, which is not the best and use an Apexi AVCR for boost control. This will hopefully give me more consistant boosting

I have to say that the current set up seems very good for the gearing on the Type R and so not sure where benefits could be made for normal fast road use?
The turbo seems to be spot on up to the shifting at 6500rpm and straight back on song at 3000rpm through the gear shift

My end wish is to not take the car that much above where it currently is , but to stick around a genuine 320/320 and if possible reduce the likelyhood of a lump rebuild?

Your knowledge and experiences with such issues are appreciated

FMIC and better boost control should achieve what you want.

Cheers John, appreciate your help

So the FMIC , wont create any noticeable lag on the Type R?

Didnt think it would but worth checking
No point doing something that will create more probs

5 Type R

Just fitted the APS FMIC to my STI V5 4 Door, the car is completely standard apart from the FMIC and K&N and I have noticed a light increase in lag but nothing to really write home about.

How hard was the kit to fit?
I have read various threads over the last year advising of difficulties when installing?

Wink

HKS front mount kit is another alternative, not too bad to fit apart from the bumper cutting

The core is huge, which is nice

Ooo and if you want a nice turbo Lateral Performance do some interesting things with big Garrets

I think I would go for the HKS option
Hopefully wont need to change the turbo as only should see slightly more lag

Cool

With your gearing lag won't be an issue, beleive me, you learn to drive around it, and to be honest you would soon forget the difference because of the way the car drives!

Fitting the APS FMIC I think is a little difficult than others (say HKS) the price attracted me and also the fact that it probably doesn't need protecting with a mesh. If you fancy giving it a go then just say and I'll let you know what I think you could do to make sure the installs goes nice an smooth.

You might also consider a Pace fmic. It should intoduce less lag than Aps or Hks as its slightly smaller and pipe work is more direct. Have one on stroked big turbo engine which was mapped on a dyno, they measured presure across the ic while mapping, they're is some pressure build up not enough to worry about. did not need to cut the bumper, but I had already removed the aircon.

Hi,

I've got a V5 STI(link, exhaust, induction, dumpvalve etc.) and fitted an HKS FMIC myself. No real problems although the bumper cutting can take a little while to get right. I noticed no extra lag(1.4 bar) and the car does run a lot better(after remap with more advanced timing).

Lloyd.

To be honest it is just quicker. Gets through the gears quicker.
More timing = More power.

5,looked into fmics alot for my 7.The APS one I have lying in house waiting to be fitted looks like a class piece of kit.For the 7 it now comes with solid pipes as opposed to silicon,so less chance of leaks. When you choose one it may be an idea to make sure it has solid pipes. One of the very respected tuners on this board told me in private to steer clear of Pace fmics(I d'ont want to start an arguement on this though please guys!)
Another knowledgable tuner once told me that each degree adavnce of ignition equates to 10 BHP and 7 lbs/ft of torque so if you could get another couple with the fmic you're on to a winner(thats what I'm hoping for anyway)
