I really can't see a dealer offering another grand just like that?
However, there must be a good reason for canceling your agreement and £1k could be classed as a good reason.
Put yourself in his shoes, if you had an offer of £1k, would you turn it down? I don't think i could, to be honest.

This could get messy Buying and selling is always difficult because ultimately you are trying to get the right car at the right price and the seller is trying to get as much as possible for it.

Someoneone on this board (won't name names) was selling speedline alloys that I really wanted. We'd agreed a price that seemed fair for both parties but he seemed reluctant to send them (despite the fact I'd have arranged for a courier to pick them up). I couldn't go down as its was far to far away. Anyway, I noticed there was interest from a local (local to him) lad as well and a few days later I was blown off with a 'I kerb my alloys and can't sell them now' email Funny how a week later that other guy had a picture on SN with the alloys on his car I was p1ssed off because he lied and didn't just level with me. Its also his loss because I would have massively extended the amount I was willing to pay for them as they were very rare.

When I come to sell stuff on SN I intend to be as open and accountable as possible as I'd hate to do to people what I've had done to me. Its all manners IMO

I think that it's a rather shoddy way to deal with someone.

I'd never deal with someone in that manner, and have in the past honoured deals despite being offered a better deal by others. A deal is a deal in my book.

Sadly, a man's word doesn't seem to be worth anything these days.

A sad story and I'm sorry it happened to you.

The same srot of thing happened when I went to buy a 22B. It was all agreed etc. The afternoon I went to get it had a call to say I was still welcome to buy the car but it'd gone up £2k in price Needless to say I told them to shove it and bought elsewhere.

It was sold another 7 months later for the sum I'd agreed originally so it bit them back in the end.

You won't find details anywhere as it was deleted even though I'd only printed the facts......

The same will probably happen to this.

I'm sorry you have been treated this way, some people have no morals or scruples.

Same thing happened to me with an RB5, I spoke to the guy on the Monday, confirmed I would be in the bank (took a day off work) Tuesday at 12, I phoned the guy up again Tuesday AM to confirm I was going ahead (i got his answerphone)

I walked out of the bank (with the money) I phoned him back and he told me he had sold it to a dealer for more money

I found out later that he had sold it on the Monday, to the dealer for 1500 quid less than what I was paying him for it !!

Then I had arranged to view a car from SN, all the way down I phoned this guy leaving messages (had spoke to him the previous day to arrange viewing) his phone was off the whole time, and he hadnt give me his address, and said I was to phone him when I was about an hour away from his area, and he would give me details then

Needless to say, I never heard from this guy again, other than to find he had sold his car already before I even set off

Sorry its happened to you, but I guess its unfortunate these things happen, but Ive never looked back with the car I ultimatly bought

Mainland also never told me the P1 got sold, again whilst I was arranging the extra money (the sales guy really wanted me to buy it (as they do) but one of the other sales guys sold it, and they 'forgot' to let me know)

Anyone can join Scoobynet and post a for sale ad for free. It doesn't mean they're an enthusiast or someone you might want to deal with.

Exercise the same caution you would when buying from Autotrader.

Hi Bash,
I think he probably had a beeter cash offer from someone on
scoobynet , because he would of got a discount from the dealer for no px
I know he was asking more for the car because I had enquire about the car a few months back.
just put it down to experience( it takes all sort to make the world ) and forget about him.
there are plenty P1s on scoobynet at the mom
good luck with your search for the right car .

I've been lucky..sent stuff out before cheque cleared etc. Have have the same to me.... But I tend to call and chat first. I am lucky...

But this is out of order..... remember Scooby's can now be bought by anyone ..they are so cheap.. they attract a thuggish laddish type of ownwer with little between the ears....

|But look at it another way ..the guy is a liar. So maybe he told lies about the condititon of the car etc... maybe it was a lemon.

karma.... what goes around comea around.... maybe he will get done for speeding or DD!!! or even better get his new car nicked or damaged.

Dont go with the "so would you refuse another £1K" crew... YES I WOULD IF I HAVE MADE A PROMISE.

I am sorry to hear this. I think 99% of the community on this board are honorable - but occassionally you get these sort of people... Legally he is right but it is far from honourable...

I sold my P1 over 2 years ago and I can tell for nothing - they did not offer him £20k now.... more like £18k if he was lucky. Most dealerships are selling them for £20k on the forecourt !

Anyhow - there are plenty of good ones about being sold by genuine people - not time wasters like this chap.

Good luck - its worth the wait.

Thumbs down

It's sad when people mess about like this, as already said, this guy is clearly far from honourable.

Strictly speaking, a verbal agreement for a car can become a legally binding contract between two parties, a written agreement is only necessary in the UK for contracts involving land. However, in practice, the existance of a binding verbal agreement is very difficult to prove without an independent witness or other means of verification. Since the burden of proof would be on you to show a contract existed, trying to fight this would be a real uphill struggle, the best bet is to forget this loser and find another car.

There are many muppets in this world, but don't give up, there are genuine people out there as well. Good luck with your future car hunting

Some people have just no sense of honour. It's rather ironic that a lawyer should pull this sort of stunt.

I hope you find the right car soon.

Gary.

Personally i think if i knew someone was travelling all that way and had set out on the journey after we had made the deal, then i would honour it, ok i know it was a £1000 more but he must have been happy with your offer of £19000 in the first place .... some people just have no scruples when it comes to money!!

I thought all that was needed for a contract (verbal or not) was offer, acceptance, and a meeting of like minds?

I am not a lawyer, and dont want to offer advice - but the way the story sits it sounds like a contract to me? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Sorry to hear of the problem you had, not a man of his word. As said before what goes around comes around.

Might be worth doing a cross post on the MLR board to warn others as he is registered there. Might do the same on the purchase of his Evo.

No doubt you will end up with with a P1 from a proper enthusiast and gentleman/lady.

Wonder how long this stays before getting locked/deleted

Had this sort of thing done to me, very annoying but not much you can do about it.....my sympathy, I must say for that sort of money it may be worth looking at what the dealers have, you may get one for this sort of money with extended warrenty + bits and bobs. I doubt they would muck you about like this..

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. It happened to me once and leaves a nasty taste.

If I can offer any advice it is to not let it consume you.

There is a better car, at a better price, out there somewhere m8

I used to read a lot of Wilf's posts but now he's kinda stopped posting..... He must know he's in the wrong as he's not replying to all these accusations. If I was this guy Wilf, I would at least try and tell my side of the story.

Lawyer or not, i would tend to treat verbal deals as written deals, as someone said earlier, a deal's a deal. If he did get £1,000 more from a garage then he must have sh8gged them to get that, but at the end of the day, he shouldn't have done a deal with you until he was 100% sure.

COME ON WILF! LET'S HEAR WHAT YOU'VE GOT TO SAY!

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR DEAL. BUT YOU MUST REMEMBER THERE ARE ALWAYS ******* OUT THERE WHO DO NOT HONOUR WHAT THEY AGREE THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THEM IS TO EXPOSE THEM TO THE SCOOBYNET MEMBERS SO THEY KNOW WHO'S WHO. *********Edited*********** BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME FELLA!!!!!!
