I have been thinking about selling my RB5, but looking at autotrader, these things just don't seem to shift. I haven't advertised mine yet, but there are 14 for sale at the moment and many have been there for a while...

Anyone with any advice?

well I bought one so I guess they do sell! I think you have to bear in mind that a lot of people looking for a subaru in autotrader etc dont know what an RB5 is, so it just looks like an expensive MY99.
Then there are those who do know what it is and think it is just an expensive MY99.
Then there are a few people who know what it is and are prepared to pay a substantial premium over an MY99 to own a limited edition which has received rave reviews left right and centre.
But most people will buy an MY99 with aircon, fit 17s and save themselves a few grand. But they are missing the point IMO!
You either love the idea of the RB5 or you dont.

Are many of these the WRSport version?
My mate is thnking of selling his EVO6 Tommy Mak, so I may think of selling my WRSPort.
I know the history of his and it has 10K miles so may be tempted to sell mine to buy his.....

been on the RB5 site. Looks good. I have to sell, I need the money.

But if you know anyone who would be interested in standard car, FSH, new Toyos allround, new pads all round, excellent condition 65k motorway miles....

This will sting.

In my experience of 1 particular RB5 owner it may well be down to embarrassment of being part of the "club" that they are not selling apart from the obvious extra money for a MY99.

This chap really thinks he has something absolutely outstandingly rare. I have never met anybody with as little charisma as this guy, he would be my reason alone for not buying an RB5.

Obviously i can't comment on the rest of you but it does appear the "anoraks" side of owning a Scooby.

Sure they are nice but come on.

There's loads of RB5's on the market, so I can't see anyone selling one quickly or easily unless they cut the asking price.

Dealers will charge you a fortune for one, but Joe Public ain't gonna pay £13K or £14K privately. I was offered £12K for mine before Xmas.

They do stand out over a std MY99/00, but I don't think mine is anything special (although even after 4yrs ownership I still get asked about it and it still turns heads). It's only worth a premium given it's got air-con, 17" alloys and a much better interior than your std MY99/00. If another car had those added, then they should get around the same amount. If anyone thinks they're worth thousands more, then they need to wake up and smell the coffee IMHO

Scooby owners can tend to be very anoraky and ****, although thankfully most of the Scottish owners I've met aren't. I'm certainly not and anyone who thinks otherwise is asking for a smack upside the head

unless u desparetly need to have money u will regret selling it at the low price u would get for it.

although its not much more then a standard MY99 the limited edition factor does hold the price slightly more but the release of the cheap MY03 has killed the 2nd hand market.

keep it

If you are realistic with the price you will sell it. I have looked at 5 or 6 Scoocbs over the last month - all of which were MY99's or 00's with aircon and low to medium miles. The prices of these varied from £9k to £10.5k. I haven't bothered looking at RB5's because most people are asking an unrealistic premium for 17" wheels, different cloth and few stickers.

IMHO a standard RB5 is worth ~£1k more than standard Turbo with aircon. If it is a RB5-WR then add another £1k.

The RB5 is a great car but it is just a grey Turbo with a few goodies bolted on. One annoying thing is that the RB5 has no split folding rear seat (very important for people with babies).

I thought that the RB5's had about 240 bhp, ie more than a std by about 25... Isn't that a reason to buy one?

Dodge

Only the RB% WRSPort with the PPP has the upped power.
Standard RB5 is 212 I think

The thing that makes me laugh, is how everyone (including me) says that the RB5 is just a MY99 with different paint, alloys and cloth. Then you get folk desperately trying to get the RB5 alloys and interior - WTF

The cars only worth what someone's prepared to pay regardless of what model it is. For God sake, you still get people wanting £20K-£25K for a P1.

there are a "couple" more differences between a RB5WR and a ppp MY99 but imho only worth AT MOST £500 more. I've no idea why some people thing there worth soo much more?!

I was looking for an RB5 just prior to xmas, and every one I saw, wanted silly money for them (silly money IMHO)

Dealers were selling them for upto 17 grand, for non WR versions

an extra grand could get you a P1, which is what I almost bought, and in the end, I got a Sonic Blue MY00 for less than 12 grand, with less than 13k on the clock, and in mint condition, with 17" wheels, and an 800 quid stereo

Im surprised at the number of RB5's and P1's for sale just recently, or is it cos they are 3 years old, and everyones upgrading, I guess with this many for sale, it will have a knock on effect on the residuals

Afaik the brochure says 218bhp so it is a tad more

I completely disagree with all that say its just an My99 with different paint and wheels. It not just one thing that makes the car different is a combination of them all. I.e the paint colour (awesome colour), interior, wheels, stickers, spoiler air con etc. All these make the car just a bit nicer that a normal or even ppp'd My99.

I bought mine because of the colour, wheels and spoiler. I only realised it was a limited edition a few days after. We can all say what we like about the cars and their differences and similarities but at the end of the day these cars will only get rarer as time passes. The prices have fallen yes, but i think they'll go back up just as the Ford RS models went up in price the rarer they got.

Seems to me spoon that cause you aint got an RB5 your missing out on all the Anoracking we do. I mean after all people will be green

I'm kinda sick of this arguement now ayway, if you like em fair enuf comment but dont sit there slating them until you've owned one long enough to comment

How many more times do we have to have this arguement about whats better.....get a frikin life!

I bought one in January this year. Some will say I was ripped of at £15k for a T plate car. Its not even a WRSport one, so realy is an MY99 with fixed rear seat ant some extras. But Look in the prodrive brochure. all the extras on these cars ad up to about 2.5k. I wanted one, and this one I though was work paying extra for because it only had only 22,000 miles, and extended manufacturers warrant till Aug 2004 (which I just had £700 worth of work done on)

I like the car, the colour and wanted air con (another 1k extra). 17" wheels, interior and driving lights I also like, so to me it was worth it. Nothing to do with being exclusive, just a nice MY99.

Some dealers are aving a larf its true. But I am pleased with mine.

R.B.5- It wasn't argumentative at all, it was merely fact based on what i've seen.
It was a comment with no malice, simple, you come back with a childish reply trying to defend your car. Don't bother it doesn't need defending, you just add weight to my findings by doing so.

My Scooby is my 2nd car, as cars go it is ok, nothing brilliant, still it's quicker and more exclusive than your RB5 but without the anorak in the boot.

Can you throw your toys back in your prams now boys

God, I'm so sick of folk prattling on about RB5's With the amount of post on here I was thinking of starting one myself. How about .....

'anyone not selling their RB5'
'how many non-RB5 owners on here'
'the non-RB5 owners club'

RB5's are so 1999

Don't forget the quickshift and PIAA's as standard. I also used to have an RB5 but am now owner of an STI8. My RB was sold about 3 weeks ago for £13500 with 52K on the clock from my local dealer. So YES they do still sell. Your not buying an ordinary scoob but a little bit of Subaru history and they are getting rarer due to crashes/stolen etc.
