My 03 seats
#1
Just got my new WRX and am enduring that frustrating period of running in. Very pleased with it so far, build quality far better than my previous 99 uk model, can't wait for the 1K service and PPP (anyone got this on their WRX yet?). One thing I'm not sure about is the seats, even at running in speeds round roundabouts (Milton Keynes so lots of those) if find that I slide about in them, they don't hug like the old car and I'm concerned it gonna get worse once I get up to full speed, any comments on this or recommended replacements.
Thanks

This might not help too much as I've got an STi (although I'm also in MK), but I've noticed the seats are a bit harder than my '98 or P1, and that the back of the seat is a bit wider.
However, I've now had mine for about 10 weeks, and they're softening up a bit now. I definitely feel I'm sitting IN them now, when to start with I felt I was sitting ON them. If that makes any sense.

First post this for someone returning to Scoob'ing after toooooooo long away. I used to run a 98 Turbo but strayed from the path of righteousness for a few years. A couple of weeks ago I bought an 03 Wagon with PPP on it. Is it worth it? I reckon!
I can't comment or compare to the 03 WRX with no PPP but I drove a bug-eyed model without one and the car is in a totally different league to that. My car is ex-demo and had just had the pack fitted when I drove - and bought - it. Sounds nice, easy to live with and goes like stink (0-60 in an offical 4.8 is decent for the family estate afterall). If you want to be sure though, find a dealer with a demo running one. They are out there. Just been on the "dealer" board and a few were mentioned that had them or were getting them fitted.

the seats are the one thing (or 5 things!) I dislike about the WRX03 - they are too short in the leg (and I'm only 5'10) and too wide in the back, the MY00 seats were much better suited to a high performance car.
I took mine for a good hard thrash yesterday around the Nottinghamshire country lanes and ended up sliding all over the place
May be the next things I change....

never been to MK - is it nice?

Just thinking exactly the same yesterday Neil - too short in leg, too wide at the back.
I automatically put the seat down at its lowest position. It helps to lift it quite a bit, as you then get more support on the front of your legs.
Either way, it's a fine art getting a comfy position on 'em, but I think I've managed it now. I'll kill 'er indoors if she moves it

yes, mine is in exactly the same position - low as it will go.
the Mrs used ours yesterday and it took me 4 1/2 hours to get it to the same position again
Gonna rip em out at the w/e and replace with an upturned one of these
comfier and more supportive

Neil LOL. I too have the seat on it's lowest setting, but still feel i'm fighting to avoid sitting on the handbrake when cornering hard. Neil, MK is great IMHO, relatively clean and spacious, roads are good as long as you like roundabouts (you soon will if you don't!) lots of dual carriageway and no speed cameras that I'm aware of. Not that I advocate road racing or anything, it's just hard to keep the speed right down when presented with miles of empty carriageway.

The main reason for not getting an MY03 was the crappy sport seats in it, how can they say they are the same as the MY01 but with side airbags, they do not support your shoulders at all.

Aye, the seats aren't great in the WRX03. I still have some adjusting to do, maybe someday I'll get comfortable. The wife used to complain about a sore back when in the passenger seat. She has stopped complaining now. I leave her at home.
I got the PPP fitted a couple of weeks ago, sounds different, accelerator pedal feels strangely more spongey (slightly more slack now?). Now have 2800+ miles done (since 1st March) no commuting either!

Try being 6'3" and 16 stone, don't move at all. (No nasty comments please!!!!!) The seat back is just great, but you are right, the cushions are a bit short in the leg!
MK? Just come a bit further North and try out the b roads in Rutland and East Leics.

Martin,
I got mine fitted at around 1700 miles, I had been very gentle with the car before this time so I can't really say that I notice much (not having much heavy-right-foot experience before fitting). Yes, it's very fast from a standstill, but as someone has already said, the chassis can take more. So can I. I think.

I notice alot of people getting their PPP fitted at quite low mileage. Im saving at the moment and will be at about 10k before I can get the PPP done. Presumably there isnt a downside to waiting until the mileage is higher? (apart from the lost time with the extra power of course )

Just had mine fitted (MY02) at 12000 miles and what a difference ! Feels just like the car I traded in 12 months ago (MY99) only smoother more refined and with a brilliant soundtrack. I would say it feels faster than my MY99 did actually. Get it fitted, irrespective of mileage, you won't regret it. Its worth it for that exhaust note
