its done it for awhile but its too unbearable now.
i have a twin dump downpipe fitted to my99 the problem is its that big it is about 3-4mm form the steering rack and when hammering round corners they hit together and the vibration and noise is unbelievable,
its going to have to be sorted now as the exhaust wrap is wearing away,
anyone had the same problem and tackled it???
ideas appreciated?

I had the same problem, the way that I fixed it was to remove the uj and file a radius onto the corner that was touching the down pipe.
The best way to find out which part of the uj is fouling is get the car up in the air on axle stands get someone to rev the engine whist slowly turning the stearing whilst you look from underneath.

The more brutal way but is as effective is to dent the down pipe at the point closets to contact with the car.
I have heard of this being done and I hardly think it will affect performance or gass flow too much!!

When I had the problem I thought about putting a dent in the downpipe but due to the restricted access it would mean talking the downpipe off. So I took the easier option of removing the uj.
Also as the downpipe is lagged the lagging would not follow the contour of the dent and would still catch / rub on the uj.

What make of downpipe is it??
I had one given to me for my car, which I think was a Mongoose ( may be a PE T75 downpipe though ), and it was almost hitting the UJ even when stationary. A very crap bit of exhaust I have to say, and whoever made it should be ashamed. I cut the twin tump bit of it annoyed me that much, after denting it etc still didnt leave clearance.
Im not convinced the twin dump makes any difference anyway, as it certainly made no noticeable difference to my car when I removed it. ( and welded up the remaining holes )

its a bit of a known problem with some early types of a certain twin dump downpipe.
as I recall, you need to get the lower mount monified.
cant remember exactly. try using search - you will probably find a few threads with this problem.
