Hi All,

Just killed 3rd gear, and I've my first track event of the year on Monday

I'm looking for a Subaru 5 speed I can swap it with before then - does anyone know if *any* of the Legacy 5 speeds fit (and be strong enough to last one event)?

I have a feeling the price for an Impreza gearbox for someone in my position (and in Switzerland) will be rather high. I want to check breakers for Legacy items tomorrow too.

Longer term is no problem - I have a PAR kit waiting to be fitted......

Thanks
Richard

They will fit, but Im not sure what diff ratios it may have compared to your car.
I know that UK boxes are the same, legacy/impreza, and that Jap models are likewise.
Not sure about a Euro spec car, but I think they follow the UK.
Physically they will fit though no problems.

The other thing some of the later Impreza boxes had different bolt pattern.

I have just rebuilt a twin turbo box to go into the 1989 legacy, twin baulk rings had all of the gears crack tested and re-shot peened.

This would be the strongest standard Subaru gear box you can buy.

Thanks Both,

Just gotta' find one now I thought any bolt issues were the number of bolts rather than their location - and that this was also the difference between <my98 and later boxes?

phase 2 had extra bolts on bell housing, but they will just be redundant when fitting to a phase 1 car and vica-versa.

plenty of high power/torque cars with the phase 1 casing, so don't worry unduly.

Fitted I'm off to Dijon, yeehah! Thanks for the help.

I lost my Quaife in the process, and the new 'old' box doesn't have a sprung gate, so I'm fluffing most changes currently.... 1st is real noisy, and I've turned the boost right down to ensure (hopefully....) I survive the weekend (sheer power never mattered much on track anyway - I'll now be running against a 1.5 bar'ed Evo with a measly 1.2 ).

sprung gate ??? sounds like they havent fitted the spring underneath the linkage.

A phase 2 box will fit an old engine fine, but be aware, that the lower starter motor bolt will be missing, and something will need to be sorted for this.
