I have to plug the place I just bought my latest new toy from.

Strangely they specialise in Duck decoys and such! But their price for the heav duty flex drive dremel is best i've seen.

Don't be put off by the 'Dremel' name, this tool is well up to porting heads and the like, is more controllable than an air die grinder, smaller and lighter than anything, powerfull enough to drive large TCT cutters etc.

Anyway Pintail Detail Carving Supplies are the place, the guy there was very helpful, and used to work for RR so appreciated what I was buying it for.

I also doesn't blow the swarf in your face!

I've taken some pictures, the smaller hand piece is tiny, about 15mm diameter and less than 100mm long.

I could do with some larger diameter sanding rolls/drums though.

A nice 25mm diameter round cutter suitable for Al would be nice too, any ideas?

I ordered a load of flapper wheels from tools unlimited

I see they do a 19mm diameter TCT ball cutter, but it's a bit harsh possibly on Al.

Also, those Al specific cutters remove way too much for carefull porting! I'm after something that doesn't leave such an uneven surface

the burr I have isnt too coarse...

Agreed that they are a bit agressive...

Can you vary the speed.. as that helps a bit with mine...

speed is varied with the foot pedal.

I tried one of the Dremel supplied burrs made from TC 'grit' sintered onto a shaft, finishes like 60 grit but doesn't clog like a stone would or wear like a drum does.

19mm diameter TCT burr might be purchased though.

Paul, how much did it cost you??
Do you think it would be adequate to port headers as well as head polishing etc..

click on the link above.

£168 inc vat + £6 postage

Definitely powerful enough to do some headers.

I have some headers in the garage, and could port them to give it a test.
