Hopefully in the near future I am going to fit forged pistons and uprated con rods.In your combined experience who produces the best?

It really depends on what your going to do, ie 400bhp plus for instance, anything below 300bhp and i wouldnt touch the engine.
You could try lateral performance as i know they do forged pistons (check out scoobyshop).

Also worth contacting engine builders such as Roger Clark Motorsport, or Steve at SMG, they are building the majority of the 400+ bhp scoobs in the UK.

My engine was rebuilt at around 12,000mls by Matt Clark with forged pistons and steel rods plus their uprated oil pump mod. The car has been running well over 400bhp since last October with typical boost of 2 bar and sometimes more and after 20,000 mls since the rebuild still works like a sewing machine.

 

RCM have some nice Omega pistons for 2.0l engines, as used by Bob rawle in his 450hp+ engine. Lateral performance ones are also very nice and possibly a little cheaper

If you want to buy in the UK then Lateral Performance rods are a very good option. Some places do cheaper rods in the US, but you will probably have to add VAT and duty depending on your luck.

Also, if you give Steve at SMG a call he can help you out

Edited to add: Harvey's point about oil pump is also important, even I (tight fisted git) have splashed out, it's cheap peace of mind IMHO.

Yep can second the comments to date at RCM.. excellent work.. no issues whatsoever in the miles I've done since the mods.. although only done about 3000 miles.. mostly to Rolling Roads!!

Omega Pistons, steel Rods and the oil pump mod.. plus a lot of other services including respraying the front when I got frustrated one day and ruined the Ally bonnet...

Cant tell the car is uprated at all other than the performance is there... the Pistons are apparently a lot quieter than the Cossie ones and Bob changed his from Cossie to Omega... I cant tell any difference in noise between the old and new engine..

Mines only at around 380-390bhp but should be similar to Bobs sort of power in the next few months.. ''to infinity and beyond''...

Wonder what the standard Crank can cope with?

 

Been in touch with RCM.Spoke to the people there and am very impressed.They also put me in touch with the chap that does their mapping,the guy really knows his stuff.He recomended a nitrided crank which I think will be my option.Unfortunately my WRX has an open deck block which whilst ok up to a point can cause problems in very high power applications.I am waiting on advice before purchasing a new block as it has to have the right spec so all my other bits (like cyl heads etc) will fit.
Lateral also sound good however Its a bit further to travel for the final build when I get all the bits together.(Wallet tried to commit suicide today when it realised what I had in mind!!)

Open deck.. isnt that pretty standard on most Scoobs.. I'm sure mine is.. Did Bob change his to closed deck cant remember..

I changed the Cylinder heads just so there would be no problems running higher compression along with a number of other bits

Yep Bob is an excellent mapper.. you want to see him drive the cars he's mapped.... scary..... and frightening spring to mind (of course within the speed limit officer)

Got mail from Scoobyonthemoor(thanks by the way!) and he explained that under high boost situations the open deck supports the cylinder less than closed deck design and can cause problems with cylinder head gasket sealing(cylinders swell and movement breaks seal under really high boost applications)
Bobs got a semi closed deck which I think is what I need but am waiting for confirmation.
Nitriding is a type of heat treatment which hardens the surface
of the crank and makes it more resilient to a severe thrashing.
