sorry mods for putting this in general

but my wife was driving the car earlier today and caught the kerb (not unusual for her )

the question is

this was a corner kerb and instead of being rounded off the two kerbs meat at 90 degrees this has a very sharp edge and has took a large chunk out of the tyre side wall (enough that i have just had a new tyre fitted £100 + )

i have kept the tyre and intend to take some digi photos of the tyre and kerb and make a claim.

do you think i stand a chance???

hey i don't want to get into some sort of slagging match over this.

this is an entrance to a new shopping developement

1. the area is not completely finished as railway sleepers for most of the curbing.

2. The entrance is far to small. ALL the shop owners have written and complained to the local council. Believe me its a mess!!

3. speed bumps have now just been installed right on the junction in completely the wrong place thus making even more difficult to manouver in.

4. the kerb in question it at least 9 inches high as the tar mac is not been finished properly.

5. I have personly (over the last 2 months) seen 3 minor bumps and at least 10 near misses.

6. My wife is a good driver!! 22 years and NEVER an incident, NOT ONE! there ain't meny on here who can say that (including me)

please try and be a bit more constructive, many peeps have claimed for wheel damage due to pot holes! i'm not even going to bother to say that they should have steered round them cos i live in the real world!

and she must have been doing sum speed to manage that kind of damage?

if she was going slow the damage wouldnt have been so great
after all if the entrance is to small, the u should be crawling through

It may be..... but you can claim if the council can be proved to be at fault.

 

TBH honest mate i think you may be able to do something about it.
If the develpers are using temporary materials and not the specified ones in their plans then you have a claim.
My bro works on the roads and has seen all sorts of gash attemps to temporarily bodge drainage covers etc that wouldnt pass an ispection.
Its worth a try

Most likely the company doing the work will just hand you over the £100 quid in cash if you go and see the gaffer.

Just make sure you have you damaged tire in your boot. (if you havent go back to the tyre place and get it)

i had the exact same thing happen to me in yorkshire.

I claimed and lost, they said that every road in the world cant be perfect and they can be imperfections to some degree so it depends on what the kerb is like, basiclly does it warrant a claim.

why do some people refuse to see what is blatantly obvious to everyone else.

she hit the kerb, she ****ed the tyre, tough ****.

 

I HIT A POTHOLE IN MY CALIBRA AND KILLED A 17INCH TYRE AND DINTED THE RIM. WENT TO COUNCIL OFFICE FOR ROAD MANAGEMENT IN MACCLESFIELD, CHESHIRE. FILLED IN A FORM AND SENT IT WITH MY INVOICES FOR ALLOY REPAIR AND TYRE DAMAGE AND WAS REIMBURSED, IN FULL, AFTER 2 WEEKS. THEY ALSO FIXED THE POTHOLE (WHICH WAS 2 INCHES DEEP) IN A DAY. DON`T KNOW HOW IT WORKS WITH KERBS, BUT IF IT ISN`T FINISHED, I THINK YOU`LL HAVE A CASE.

 

You probably dont have much chance - in a village near me they have put traffic calming measures, including a kerb that comes 2 feet out into the road, and is invisible now the yellow paint has been worn off by people hitting it, including people who live there. Council just says tough. One day it will cause a serious accident.

I'm sorry to hear about that Steve. It is not necessary to be going that fast to destroy a tyre on a kerb like the one you described. I would certainly give it a go to get another tyre, if the road is unfinished and left in such a state then there should have been some kind of warning to my mind. As someone said, make sure you have the ruined tyre with you.
