In case you think I am having a laugh.....email from my mate...

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::

Post a note on Scoobynet saying you've got a mate who works at AE, and that as we broke the story first we'd like to do a follow-up on owner reaction. Get them to email their comments to me at news@autoexpress.co.uk and we'll publish the best.

Get them to write a few sentences each, about what they like and don't like.

Subaru people will read that story, and it will get back to them that they should build it.

Seriously - if I get enough reaction I'll run a story.

R

My reaction is that it looks visually stunning. A few tweeks to the styling, such as the front spotlights and the grill would be required though.

The big unknown would be the price. If it's above 35K then it'll have steep competition. If it's at 30K then the cars it's competing against are a lot less, and it'll be right in there against the 350 and RX8.

Subaru are'nt renowed for being 'top end' car maker and so they may find it hard to break into that market if they pitch it too high up the market.

In short, yes they should build it, but please do something about the styling at the front of the car.

It would be best if the views could be posted on this thread so that everyone can contribute based on what is said. Do you have an pictures of the car that can be posted in here also so those who have not see it can take a look?

All the best

Simon

Generally it looks pretty good especially the rear 3/4 view....I'm trying to think of something nice to say about the grill....and failing....

Anyone else remember the Allegro Vanden Plas (aka The Pig) ?

Major redesign in the front I think !

PS I presume as with the newer scoobs that interior will need 2 make further improvements when competing with the cars in this type of bracket thou Kudn't go to far wrong with looking at a supra IMO u gota luv the way they r sculpted towards the driver

Looks like a strange cross between a TT, a 911 and an Alpha, with a huge air intake just for the sake of it (or does it have a FMIC). Gives the impression they're heading for a higher price bracket with this one. Any idea's on performance?

It's looking nicer the more I look at it, but are they going for the American market I wonder.

I think it looks spot on. I cans see why people don't like the front but it isn't that bad. I think if the general consensus on here thinks it's bad then probably would be a good idea to adjust the styling on the front slightly. I think the price bracket will be its big selling point....too expensive and it will flop!!.

tis lovelerly!!

I really like it, with a few tweaks, and a nice juicey engine it'd be a sucess, not a replacement for the impreza, but as a different product, I think it'd do well..

I personally think the rear 3/4 and side profiles are stunning. However the front upside down Alfa Romeo grille really needs some work.

With 4wd and a couple of turbos I would quite happily buy this car.

Nathan..

Wink

Just a fort but also if it is going into big boy bracket then i can only hope they do all internals to an OTT spec so that huooooooooooooooooge power is available when/if people start bolting on the mods Sure it shud b da bomb even as standard in power terms but when u look at the skyline & supra (oh am i going on about that agin ) then it is impressive how they were/are built 2 such standards that massif power can b got without too much going pop honestly that is sumin the impreza aint great on the ease of modding to big power so if i was spending mucho money then i'd want poop loads os power available shud the greed ever get the better of me (as if, i no a crazy notion lol)

i am a mechanical retard but how kum there are so many porblems with the gear box being better (currently) with an auto. I know the supras manual box can take far more power than the auto which can still take a shed load? Also please dont do sum stoopid tiptronic box & keep plenty of manuals available when u got them sorted as a manual supra is like rocking horse plop

It looks like the offspring of an RX-8 and the new Skyline, the side looks nice, the rear 3/4 is also pretty good, but the front is awful. I can't even think if any minor revisions that would make it acceptable, a complete redesign of the front end is required!
Most manufacturers have a corporate nose that goes on all of their models, Subaru seem to be trying to do something different on each one, and none of them is working. The front fog/driving (whichever they are) lights appear to have been located precisely where they will get damaged most easily (the cynical might suggest a good way of making extra money).
It is difficult to tell for sure from the pictures, but the boot lid appears to be high and narrow if this is the case you will not be seeing many parked at your local golf course.
Finally, I've seen power figures, but no mention of weight, I really hope Subaru manage to keep it down to a sensible level as the Impreza seems to be increasing in weight on an almost weekly basis.

I love it. But would love it more with the nose toned down a bit.

But to be a true Impreza it's got to be relatively cheap, light, sound like a proper Scoob and go/stop/handle like the very best. Manual box, please.

Spec'd with a twin-turbo 3.0 flat six, apparently with twin exhausts, plus those daft doors with no B-pillar, it's gonna be 1,500kg and heading for M3 territory. Where it will fail.

Hats off to Subaru, though, and good luck

Richard.

Will not get my vote or my money either.
I thought that they had taken on an Alfa guy to get some clues about styling.

Love it. Apart from the grille. REALLY hate the grille.
Am guessing this is being pitched at the £30k market.

It is mildly reminiscent of the SVX: An excellent car that is let down by it's look.

Would like to see the Subaru Flat 6 under the bonnet, ideally with a pair of turbos (one per bank, NOT sequential!) and with the grille resculpted for more subtlety.

Why not make the grille smaller, and have a vent in the bonnet (aka the new mini)?

Thumbs up

I love the look of the car from all angles but the front...

The 'face' is too much of a caricature to suit the rest of the car...it needs toning down a bit, and maybe making a little more sleek, it's a bit to bluff for my tastes...

Very much Subaru's take on the RX7, which is fine by me! I guess it would be pitched at the same level price and market wise...oh an it would be great with the new legacy twin turbo 6

Needs a bonnet scoop like Nova's are sporting these day

Side + rear great. Grill reminds me of a Bugatti EB110 - but even more ugly!

Have they copied the rear doors off a Mazda RX8?

Hope it does'nt end up as a lardy overweight car with over-tall gearing. Too many around already - yawn.

I really love it though price REALLLLY matters on this one. However I think this is a bit of a cunning plan - who would want to get rid of our much beloved regular scoob. You would have to have one of each?????

I think it looks great.Front end could do with some smoothing off but apart from that I like it.IF it could provide 360+ BHP,with 3 litre engine and AWD and cost less than £35k I would honestly put a deposit down tommorrow.I d'ont want to buy a Porsche or M3(inverted snobbery I know),this is the car I would buy.

It would make obvious sense to me to make a 2(or 2.5) litre version at £20ish k to keep its previous market and then have a 3 litre turbo version at £30k+ to help people like me to not have to buy a Porsche,M3 etc

Absolutely BRILLIANT!!

Subaru would get a part of my vast wealth for the chance to own something that looked so so so so good!!

One point and one which would save Subaru a fortune without alienating too many buyers ......... make it a hatchback - let the boot open up with the rear glass!!!

No need for a 5-door then, save money AND attract the 5-door brigade with doggies!!

Pete
