Hi everyone can someone tell me what was the year that the V5 sti began production? Also what is the difference between a V4 and V5? This is all just in case someone is trying to con me on a 98 V5

Version 5 begins in 98.

I have a Dec 98 Version 5

Different front lip and big rear spoiler is the most obvious difference between V4 and 5

Forgot to ask how are the brakes on the V5 as i have been reading about a lot of fade? I will only be using the car for fast road driving and not track use!!!

 

I have a V4 first registered in October 1998. The visual differences are as described above, but I believe the V5 has the updated (non-piston slap) engine.

 

Get the Model Code from the plate in the engine bay and then look here

An STi V5 Type R should have GC8F2DD

Lip and Spoiler are easy mods to any car

 

really depends on what you want to do with the car. *ahem* spirited driving like they say on these forum may necessitate a change from the 297mm, 4pots that come as standard on the car. you can go the whole hog and go for a 330mm bremo or ap kit with 6 pots or even 10 pots but these are a wallet crushing 1500 - 2000 quid. other places do upgrade kits which uprate the pads and rotors but keep the OEM 4 pot calipers for around 500- 600 quid.

I can recommend the Alcons which I've got on my P1. A mate reckoned they were better than the AP 4 pots on his car and I found them much better than std Brembos on the EVO7.

 

Begins AUGUST 1998 I believe so do check the August bit.

Cracked a front disk on mine - disks only stand up to the road, just!

V5's got, as stated, updated engine (coil moved off centre line), updated bumperS, crystal h/lights and fogs, red cloth all around the top of the front seats and not in 2 patches, bigger rear wing, and that's about it really...

Different colours too (cool grey...)
