Have just received a letter from my local dealer stating my annual air con service is due ? and its £45 + VAT is this true and is this the price ?

Also how much should you pay for the 52,500 miles / 42 months service ??

Cheers.

Annual? Erm, I don't believe aircon needs an annual service. Some time the future it might need regassing, but mine is now 3 years old and works as well as it did on day 1...

AFAIK, a/c doesn't need an annual service, all it needs its to be switched on for 10-15mins for every 2 weeks, if not used regularly.
It may need regassing & cleaning of some parts every 2 or 3 yrs.

It was'nt the reg plate blub. To be honest I can't remember if it was a side light or a tail light.

I spotted it the night before the service, but like a 'numb nuts', forgot to do it in the morning. Could of saved myself at least 50p

Just remember to turn the a/c on for a while every time you use the car.... the oil seals tend to leak if they dry out - so turning it over once a while keeps them soaked and prevents leaks

Jimmy,

dont do it mate keep yer money in yer pocket........

as the lads have said above all you need to do is to run it every know and again(would be nice to get the weather in this country for A?C but there you go)not so much for mechanical reasons ,which of course is important, but, would you like driving around turn on your vents and be blasted with the smeel of an old kipper.....point made turn it on know and again and if poss...clean the coils yourself every couple of years if you want.........
No point in throwing money away...........

Last I heard, you should switch it on for about 15 mins a month at least (helps with demisting anyway), and needs servicing every 3 years.

That may be the anti-bacterial flush they do. It smells like roses for a week afterwards - makes you look like a bit of a puff if you're male

Not sure what the correct cost of an AC service is at Subaru, or what it intails, but £45 sounds OK. I've never got a letter from my dealer about an AC service.

A mate's Audi A3 1.8T cost about £100+vat for a AC re-gas and service ... that was at an Audi dealer aswell.

My 52.5K service on my MY99 wagon was £137.67 at Gatwick Subaru. This was inclusive of a 10% SIDC discount. Usual parts replaced, oil, oil filter, screen wash etc, but it also included a 12v bulb.

If you don't want to use Subaru, I'm sure you'll get it done cheaper somewhere esle.

EDITED to say ... do a search on 'Air Con Service'. There were quite a few threads about this last year. A lot of mobile people were mentioned.
