don't know if this is useful or even too late but paragraph 1 might ease your fears:

Cool

well I looked at the AA also..
very pricey.. and also wondered if they really know what they were doing..

..but in the end TSL were able to quote me 50+VAT for a full on pre purchase inspection
(and yes it was a private sale, not thru TSL)
happening on tuesday, and if all goes well I'll report back with a glowing reference for TSL

I had this done on my last 2 cars by the AA STI III and Golf TDI. I wouldn't bother TBH, they basically go round the car looking very closely, they don't actually pull stuff about. You are then given a list of **** covering statements such so that you would be very lucky to have any comeback. They make note of every little dink and scratch so if you are a buyer you will be able to come back and bargain with a long list of very minor faults all of which you could probably fix on your own in an afternoon.

They will have had to spend about £150.00 to have it done, so stick to your guns, if they don't take the car, they lose the money, you can sort the probs and sell it to someone else!

Good Luck

Andy

Did TLS travel to the car or does the car need to go to them?

Question

So TSL won't be able to check for piston slap and other cold start problems?
