part of the exhaust might be just touching part of the cars body causing a vibration at a certain point in the rev range, could be just that, due to manufacturing tolerances the magnex downpipe might be a tiny bit shorter than your old one, so the rest of the exhaust system would be pulled forward slightly when everything is tightened back up, part of the exhaust could now be touching the body of the car. Just a guess mind, but i had a similar problem with a centre pipe on my car, a hammer fixed it!

IIRC the magnex downpipe wastegate pipe used to foul the steering joint. This was an issue 12 months ago and I was advised not to fit a magnex at that time. It may still be the case.

I've considered fitting this part so I get the full decat.

Apparently you can hear the turbo spool up so maybe thats what you are hearing? You should also be able to hear the wastegate, so sounds like its normal.

Quick Q for you: Are you getting pops and bangs on change down? (what backbox and centre u using?)

Big difference in turbo noise when you change the d.p. The boost comes in sooner. Could just be the noise of the turbo spooling.

Mine started blowing and whistling as soon as the turbo impeller was spinning, when I got the dp fitted; from very low down in the rev range.

Can't hear it so much now because of the backbox.

I heard my first pops when lifting off from high revs, the other day. What actually is this ? Unburnt petrol touching hot exhaust ?

Hi neil,

The down pipe has made a huge difference to power and tourqe and its so much smother to drive, a big thumbs up, if any one is thinking about putting a d/p on do it. Been told today that it could be wastgate chatter so panic over.

Just had my magnex d/p fitted so now its a full de cat, on driving out of the garage there is a noticable noise just as the turbo starts to spool up at about 1800-2000 rpm, sounded like it was blowing, so back to the garage which they looked at it and said its not blowing.

Its not a rattle more like a raspy blowing noise like air escaping apart from that its fine, any one else had this just a bit worried

Cheers darren.

cheers for the replys but its not exhaust rubbing noise more of a air excaping noise its as if the wastgate is opening and closing very fast, but i would of thought that it should not be opening that low in the boost and rev range.

Cool

Hi Darren,

You got it fitted then This DP certainly does not foul the steering column as it used to live on my car
The noises you are hearing are most likely all the new noises you get to hear that the OEM masks. You'll hear much louder turbo whistle, wastegate opening and closing etc, so its probably just the noises you've not heard before

Have you opened her up yet? Should be a huge difference!!

Cheers mate
Neil.
