Question

My bird can't stand the bucket seats and complains about their 'uncomfortability'.

Mates (guys) on the other hand love the bucket seats.

Anyone else have this issue?

Tracey posting in Paul's name

I love the bucket seats, they do feel comfortable and keep me in my seat.

Cheers

My girlfriend has never complained about them. However my brother has on a 150 mile trip and hes not fat or anything.

Think it maybe to do with the fact that on my MY00 Turbo there are no adjustments to the passenger seat like their is with the drivers seat (apart from angle and distance).

Simon.

If she moans, she knows that she can go and buy her own car. Simple.

Bucket seats okay when driving but no good for those layby moments. If I'd had an Impreza when I was courting the missus she'd have given up long ago.

Hmmm...she's 5'6 and a size 8, so big bum wont work! She doesn't seem to like the idea of not being able to move around like in the hairdresser big leather sofas found in Mercs.

I think Wilf might have nailed it...

On a related note, can you lye down in the back if you put the seats down and have an empty boot?

I think P1Fanatic has it sussed.

My dad and Mrs have moaned about how low down the passenger seat is, and how they feel 'stuck in' the seat.

I of course tell them the seats are like that for a reason but once they've sat on my side their views have changed.

Yep, she moans! Don't help that she's pregnant so it's getting worse by the day for her to get in and out....

Unhappy

My wife has a bad back and I had to sell the Scoob because of the seats. Series McRae with Recaro's.

I had an Orthopeadic speacalist look at the seats and even had some foam inserts made to try and get round the problem.

Bucket seats hold you in place which is OK if your fit, healthy and enjoy pushing the car but the sloping base puts more pressure on the base of your spine. If your held immobile, as you are in bucket seats, for long peroids of time the pain soon builds up as you can't adjust your posture.

The Alfa I have now has softer padding and a less agressive sports seat and Lorraine has been fine. The Suspension on the Alfa is as firm as the Scoob, its fitted with Eibach 25mm lowering springs which are 20% stiffer than standard as well as Bilstien dampers, the seats make all the difference to the comfort.

I had an Octavia RS and MGZS180 on my short list but discounted both these due to the seating.

I have been looking round recently and the best option for me would be to get something with full electric adjustment on the passenger seat. I tried the Leon Cupra with Leather pack and I could set my seat up in a bucket style and Lorraine could have hers set up with a flat base.

Cheers
Lee

I once had a g/f complain that the sports seats (in the mondeo that i had at the time) "feel like they are trying to grab my t!ts".

One of the reasons for getting the Tavia instead of another Scoob was the seats - I liked them, but my wife didn't. She said they would probably be fine if you were sitting in a driving position, with your arms out in front of you, but when you were just sitting, she didn't think the seat was very comfy.

Still, holds you in while you corner *snigger*

I must be one of the lucky ones then, the seats was one of the selling points when I came to buy my Scooby, the wife loved em straight off. Although she is a bit of a car enthusiast and understands why they are needed in the car, especially when I drive .

They are good for holding you in place, but you know when you've been in them for a few hours.

IMPIII is spot on. My wife is preganant as well and apart from hating the car full stop, she hates the seats even more.
And when our youngest wants her attention in the car seat, she moans that she cant turn around..but you try telling a heavily pregenant, hormonal mad, could lose it any moment wife that it's not the seat dear, its your fat ****.
Anyway want to volunteer, i will gladly let u have a drive

Surely you just need to show her why they're shaped like that with a few corners, then she'll be grateful (of avoiding getting intimate with the door, as said earlier)!!

Mind you, if the corner is the other way she could be getting intimate with the hand brake or gear stick and that could be even more worrying (or... ahem... interesting)

Well, I've explained that the bucket seats are there for a reason and I frequently demonstrate their benefits. Unfortunately, she gets quite shaken up if I drive like that too often, so bit of a catch 22...
