Question

Can anyone help?

I've developed a strange kind of graunching noise in my MY99. When in 4th or 5th at very low rpm - about 1000 to 1200 - and accelerate I get a metallic grinding type noise. Only happens in this rev range. I had an AP clutch and LP lightened flywheel fitted a couple of months ago.. these have been great but I'm not too sure about the state of the clutch release bearing.. the garage re-fitted the old one instead the new one I'd given them .. at least I've got a new one ready if it needs replacing..

Cheers!

I think you will find that is called LABOURING!!!

1,000rpm in 5th!!! you mad?

Mine will just about pull from 2000rpm.. and as discussed lots before this is when you are mostlikely to get pinking/knock..
so it is either knocking or labouring.. don;t do it.. drop it a cog..

You were joking right??? am I on candite Camera??

Yep, JGM's right, er try driving the car a bit better, you are expecting the engine to "pull in the wrong gear. It is not a tractor you are driving, or a diesel, which are both capable of such, sorry, not the driving style suggested for this type of engine, otherwise, yes you will certanly need more repairs shortly..

It's not labouring. It's a definite grinding noise. I've only heard it the once as that's the only time that set of circumstances has happened.. I was slowing down entering a 30 zone and blipped the throttle and heard a strange noise. Never heard it before as I don't normally drive in 4/5th at 1200rpm

edit to say the car is labouring, but the sound I hear isn't the labouring, it's something else.

Oh, and I'm not too keen on testing it to see if it happens again. It's going for a service anyway so I'll say to them then.
