Question

Good, Bad, indifferent experience?

How was it dealt with?

Did you have to present your exhaust first for inspection?

Did they send you a new one, no quibble but ask that you send the knackered one back?

Dunno, how do they do it so that they don't get conned by someone just wanting a new shiny backbox but at the same time don't sound like they are calling the customer a liar?

Just wondered

GGR wouldn't honour theirs with me as it is only valid to the person who buys it. Mine was bought from GGR by Roger Clarke motorsport who then fitted it for me. The minute they fitted it the warranty was over as far as GGR were concerned. Tried to get a replacement for a faulty part recently but had to pay for it

Question

Andy, you are down south and cannot get up to TSL (Only an example folks ) in the Midlands for 2 months, your exhaust is cracking along a weld and won't last that long. You use your car for work so taking the exhaust off and having a car without one even for a week is not an option.
You cannot borrow a car for a week
You can't "borrow" an exhaust so therefore the supplier MUST move first, surely?

I had a full Magnex on a 1.9GTi a few years back. Due to a broken engine mount the manifold cracked.
Magnex's are only Warrantied if you are the original owner on the original car. Neither of those two applied as i bought the car off a mate who originally had it on his 1.6GTi.
One or two white lies had to be told and a visit to the shop where it was bought was made.
Anyway the result of the story was me getting the full exhaust replaced, even though there was nowt wrong with the rest of it.

Hi Andy,

It's not something that i'm doing, just something that I saw day in currys. A woman trying to exchange something and they were making it almost impossible for her to do so. Felt like going over there and saying summat like "FFS you told her 4 years ago it had a lifetime warranty, it's only a kettle/microwave/whatever/ it's not gonna bankrupt you so just give her a new one"
I generally have no regard for warranties because of crap like that, then i thought about my exhaust being the only thing i own with a "LIFETIME" jobbie on it. That made me think, if ever i need to claim, will it be impossible. See

Had a Mongoose on a cossy many moons ago and tried to claim but was told that the exhaust had a few scrapes on it so no guarantee , I've yet to see a lowered saph cossy with no scrapes on the exhaust yet.

so let me get this right....

company buys goods on your behalf

fits them

warranty VOID

lets look at this another way

IM buys a car and sells it to a dealer

the dealer sells it to you

is the warranty void in this case? NOPE! (well i hope not)

so whats the difference???

if the warranty on this exhaust is with the original buyer, can you contact him and get him to claim on your behalf??

I had a Magnex Full system which had a rattle in the back box, Magnex policy is that you have to buy a new part, return the old part and if they are happy that it's their fault they will refund you!!

How **** is that, anyway I took it up with TSO and they said it was perfectly legal as long as those conditions were detailed in the Terms of Sale.

The Magnex Quality was excellent. AFAIK Scorpion make the Prodrive boxes.

The magnex was far better quality than my Prodrive back box. look at some pictures you will see that Scorpions are seam welded and Magnex rolled.

It's just the warranty to be wary of, I expect if you really had a problem you would get it sorted.

Well, I had a WR Sport exhaust on my WRX, I sold it to someone on the BBS and provided the receipt with it. They had a problem with it and it was replaced under warranty no hassle, admittedly under a 1 year old at the time.

I had a scorpion backbox on my old mk2 GTI. It had been on for about 5 years when one of the tailpipes came loose and eventually parted company from the box.
More in hope than expectation I phoned Scorpion and they sent me a completely new box a few days later, they didn't even want to see the old one. Good service I reckon

i had a milltek on my uk99 about 2 years ago!
1 1/2 yrs into ownership a weld split
i phoned roadrunners where i had bought it by mail order telling them roughly what month i had bought it and they dug the receipt out for me ( switch ) and faxed it to me.
i then rang milltek and claimed on my lifetime warranty.
a new backbox arrived with no request for the old.
i got my old chap to weld up the old one and sold it for £120
bargain i say!

i used to have a scorpion system on an opel manta, caught the exhaust on a rubber speed ramp, cracked a weld on one section, rang scorpion , told them it had cracked, they sent a new replacement section.

Dont know if this counts but...

Hayward & Scott made a custom exhaust for our (now long gone) Corrado G60.
It had to go back a couple of times over a 3 year period and they always made good on their promise.

TSL have quoted in the past their lifetime warrenty is passed on with the exhaust and really does mean lifetime.

on their site they call it "UNLIMITED Lifetime warranty"...

I've got one, it was second hand. During a service TSL stopped it from rattling for no extra cost.

Cheers

Word of warning for you dudes out there (This is what a bbs is for isn't it? )
Check when you buy the exhaust with one of these "warranties" who's it actually is. There is NOTHING more infuriating than being told "Sorry, it's not our warranty, it's the manufacturers that we pass on to you"
Sod all that, YOU took my money!!!!!
If they do not offer a genuine "Own" warranty, ask how they deal with replacement exhausts. If it is not a new for old policy, do they have the facility to "lend" you an equivalent part while your part is at the bloody manufacturers.
Due to my circumstance, i have HAD to buy another backbox because they (Supplier AND Manufacturer) do not believe me when i Say that the Weld on my Backbox has split, it is a quality issue, therefore your problem! No they want me to immobilise my car so that they can check it. Bollox to you, you didn't want to check bugger all when my money was coming your way
Don't get caught out peeps, check these things. I didn't check because I assumed that if the kit became faulty due to quality issues, i'd get a new one to replace it!!

Mikey, I've got a TSL BB sitting in my garage that you could have borrowed while you sent yours back - if only I'd known...

Cheers Zip, greatly appreciated

My beef is that why should I have to go and hassle friends and hope for a freebie loan when someone who I have already paid good money to should be doing the running around? They were very quick to point out the warranty thing at point of sale. Worth bugger all in the end.

Doesnt the 'Sale of Goods act' and '...not being of sufficeint quality to do what it says on the tin' come into this somewhere?
Give the suppliers some REAL stick, make them so pissed off that they'll do anything to shut you up and get you out of the shop.
Get an independent report regards the weld and shove it under their nose. And it only costs £65 to sue in the small claims court.
Oooooohhh.....these people REALLY waz me off too!

I ordered a Spoon N1 back box from Japan last November and it rattled, phoned up and got a replacement. I had to send the old one back.

are you some sort of Psychic Mikey?

You have gone from "It's not something that i'm doing, just something that I saw day in currys." on the 26/02/03 to "Due to my circumstance, i have HAD to buy another backbox" on the 13/03/03

Or were you just preparing the way to have a rant after you didnt get your way?

Going back a bit on the thread here, but..
if Roger Clark Motorsport sold the exhaust to you ( they took your money) then if its faulty they have to replace it. If they want to send it back to GGR(as the original purchaser) then surely there is no problem.

Hiya John

I was being diplomatic and wanted to avoid the name and shame type requests. Not my style.

I nearly managed to contain it but was feeling really peed off yesterday so out it came Managed not to name though which is cool

Mikey On holiday and feeling mellow today
