(Yes it's one of those same old questions again...sorry)

Can someone enlighten me?

I have a MY96 WRX (N reg) which has the following code stamped on the engine: GC8C48D.

Now if I was to assume that the car was registered at the right time (ie. not late registered) the car would appear to be a (I quote from the SIDC FAQ's table here...) WRX of 260PS, Code C2 (?) and was part of the 09/95 - 08/96 run.

The confusing part is if were to assume that the car was late registered (and can potentially happen), the model would in fact be a WRX 260PS, Code C1 (? again), and part of the 09/94 - 08/95 run.

My question to some Impreza oracle out there is:

1. How do I tell the difference between that two?

2. What technical differences are there between them both?

The SIDC doesn't actually state any detailed difference between the two.
