Any body got an STi version 4 Type-R V-Ltd?
Whats the difference between it and a normal Type-R?
Someone said that there is the short gear ratios (as in Type-R), but 5th is longer for motorway cruising and such-like.

Thanks

Nick

As far as I know only differences are that the V-Ltd comes in Sonic Blue only and gets the Group N Roof vent/hatch. S'all.
Either Type R or V-Ltd version can be spec'd with the longer 5th gear.

Otherwise it's still the same mad piece of kit the std car is.

I'm going to look at an V-Ltd Sti4 on Saturday. The guy also has a P1 for sale but said the STi is quicker!!!
It has Cosworth-Subaru pistons, magnex exhaust, re-mapped ECU.
The rest of the spec I'll find out soon....

Dave is spot on, just a roof vent and sonic paint.
Mine revs at 4000 at 80mph in 5th and I believe this is a tall gear, but its probably possible to have shorter 5th if it was ordered like that from the factory.
have fun
Dan

IIRC 19.7mph/1000 rpm is the short gear. The tall gear is the standard STI gear ratio ~23mph/1000

Thumbs up

Interesting, that will be why when I boot mine at 80 in 5th it takes off like a jetfighter on afterburner, I always thought it felt like a reasonably long ratio.....hmmmm
also explains my scary mpg (although I have had 30+mpg on the M1)

Cool

Watch out, coz not all type R's are STI.

Car in question is the WRX Type R V-Limited.
Apparantly it doesn't have forged pistons, amongst other things.
Comes in sonic blue with the roof vent, and a close ratio box of course.

Not sure if anyone else can confirm this ??

5 Type R, all depends on when it was imported or sold.
My STI 5 Type R is manufactured 99 but is on an X plate.
I was told by DVLA that its not when the cars made but when its sold new ie mine was bought dec2000 new so fell on an X plate, although i din't register it until may 2001.

Hope that clears thing for you.

Mel.

edited cause i cant spell dvla.

WRX Type R Ltd, without STI bits looses some engine stuff like forged pistons, red manifold paint, higher rev limit, different cams, bigger STI intercooler/piping, bigger turbo, etc.. Also looses twin pot rear brakes, STI spoiler, fog lamp covers, and the DCC diff unit..

Keeps ABS though...

Quite true now thinking about it. It all really depends when it was first registered as a vehicle for the road, either in Japan or UK etc.

higher rev limit
The MY00 WRX RA Ltd has a 7,500 redline but an 8250 rev limiter.
