My sentiments reflect Adam and Yex's.
See if I'm right about the accidents......

 

I am for the first time personally angry with the government concerning speed camera positioning.

Last night I thought I'd go for a drive only to find road works on the main road out of Southend the A127, also the road you all take to get to scoobysport.

Just after the underpass at rayleigh weir, I saw them erecting around 6 speed cameras in the central reservation (gatsos - 3 pointing each way) within the space of 1 mile.

To my knowledge there has been one accident there in all the time I have been living here.

All the cameras point at plain road with no exits or entrances on a 70 mph dual carriageway.

Many people speed round there but few dangerously (when I am there at least).

Blatantly for accumulating revenue.

It is enfuriating. There are several places which need these things in the area, but I doubt they'd catch a lot of people.

But six in a one mile stretch. It takes the p1ss.

I agree with the sentiment, but are these prehaps a pre-cursor to road works? There are a load of Gatsos on the M11 roadworks Stansted - Harlow, policing a 40mph limit. Apart from the safety aspect of curing speeding in a M'way contraflow, I find that generally the traffic actually FLOWS through the roadworks, with little hold-ups & bunching, even at peak times. Less stress

 

a valid point, but I cant imagine which road works would take so that they need to install permanent gatsos. The road surface is fairly good and has been done recently and there is no mention of anything on any boards. I think the roadworks there at the moment are so that they can install the things themselves.

I totally agree, although I have to say I only use the 127 when I really have to, to see any one doing more than 60 is quite a novelty.

Cheers for the advise I use that piece of road both ways very regularly. I cannot see what they are going to achieve except the gaining of revenue

I have never witnessed an accident on that piece of road, only a few near misses when cars pull out of the Esso site, that was a particularly brilliant piece of planning from the local council petrol site on slow lane of blind bend on a dual carriageway.

It's always good to see my council tax going to a good use w*****s

Yex - still doing 60mph with everyone else on that piece of road.

 

They are not permanent GATSO's they are all temporary as they have generators.
Expect them to go we the roadworks finish.

 

That corner just after Rayleigh weir is notorious accident black spot! I have personally removed several people from the trees, the problem is that it is an off camber corner. Admitidley you generaly can't drive round the corner that quick due to traffic, but people still have managed to fall off the road there!

I know I am pointing out the obvious here and I am sure I would be the first to complain if/when the speed cameras catch me but:
The only wat these cameras are going to catch you is if you break the law.

 

Dont mind the cameras, but would prefer if they were ina more suitable area.

Agree about the adverse camber but still do not recall seeing accidents there. Only burnt out police aware cars.

Temporary, will have to take a closer look for the generators.

 

So are there any signs on that stretch of road saying "warning, adverse camber" or "careful, blind junction around next corner" or "danger, accident blackspot"?

Surely it is in the interests of road safety to warn drivers of hazards first, and if they still don't slow down - then (and ONLY then) enforce things with cameras.

(ok a bit dramatic!)

These cameras will be installed for the duration of the roadworks I guess. I've seen portable generators by their side.

Oh, and I went by both ways yesterday - not a single one is working yet.
