Depends who you ask. Anything from 5.0s to over 6 depending what mag you are reading. Tried mine with a mate and stopwatch method and got 5.5 ish.

If its a MY98 it will have 208 bhp. The UK model didn't get 215 until MY99. This only shaved off a few tenths to 60 though, the real benefits were in the 0-100 time, recorded at 14.9 in EVO November 1998 IIRC.

I believe an Oct '98 - Sept 2000 car is 215bhp, with 0-60 @ 5.6sec, 30-70 @ 5.7sec (recorded by Autocar 3/3/99).

taken from "you & your Subaru Impreza Turbo".

hope this helps!

just went n bought evo they seem to thing its 5.4 for the my98 on car. i was gonna buy a jap import but the british cars seem to be a lot quicker than i thought, 5n half seconds is still quick enough to see of almost all the hot hatch brigade and im sure a few mods could get that quicker

JUST becareful the MY (model years) change in October so you can have an 1998 car but it could be an MY98 or MY99.

An MY98 - Oct 97 to Sep 98 was 208bhp and had the phase one engine and 2 pot brakes. An MY99 Oct 98 to Sep 99 had a 215 bhp phase 2 engine and 4 pot brakes.

Easiest way to tell in the front bumper the MY99 had two slat indicator where as the My98 had 3.

Nearly all classics tested in mags have totally different powers and times than suggested by the manufacturer, which is good because they are all faster and more powerfull.
My uk97 with decat+ K&N is rapid m8.

Tested my near standard MY00 with Race Tech unit yesterday - 5.7 to 60 - and that was without being too hard on the clutch.

VTRs are much quicker though!

I've a face lift MY97 car.. bucket seats...Front end etc.. it had 15's though ... and my Engine was a dfferent lay out to a MY96 series McRae that LogicLee had?

Phil all pre Oct 98 cars have the phase one engine even though the early ones had the intercooler on the slant they are still the phase one engine.
The easiest way to tell if its a phase 2 engine your looking at it to look at the coil pack, if looking from the front of the car the coil pack is slightly to the right its a phase 2, if its in the center or you cant see it at all on top of the engine then its a phase 1....there clear as mud

Yep should have added all upto and including MY98 were phase one, but the guy asked specifically about 98 cars so I was being lazy .

Phil have you seen the new Seat .

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=178028

You have to order a set of badges of it for your scoob.

Phil,

UK MY96 and before had the phase 1 engine but fitted with the big TD04 Turbo. The intercooler is on a slant and there is also a big steel duct from the bonnett scoop to direct cool air onto the turbo housing.
They rev happily to the red line on full boost but have greater lag and don't spool up as quick.

I noticed this most on the motorway, at 80mph in 5th later UK scoobs could pull away from me as the smaller turbo spooled up quicker.

Question

Phil, a few Q's if I may...
1) I assume the item to the right of my alternator is the air con pump.
2) WHY is yours so clean and MINES so dirty !
3) why is your ic gold ?
4) does that blue pipe and BOV make much difference ?
5) whats the silver thing that I've not noticed before next to my BOV - that you don't have ?

Also, Mine is ITG too AND I was about to fill the washer bottle - which is why the lids off....

Cheers,
Mark

PS - Why are your headlamps taped up ? (trackday - Or rough neighbourhood (LOL)) ?

What is the taping up for? Im assuming that if something like a stone jumps up and cracks the lens that the tape keeps it together?

P1 fanatic,

I suspect that Phils picture was taken at Donnington. Taping up the lights prevents glass flling on the track should you shatter a headlight.

Mark,

1, Yes
2, He must have got somebody to do it.
3, Its a bit of gold mesh to protect the i/c
4, To the noise yes, to performance "Start debate here"
5, Aircon gizmo?

Pre 97 cars also had no spark plug leads but coil packs instead.
