Im just changing pads on my MY00 turbo and having a nightmare in removing the locking wheel nuts. I'm not sure whether these nuts came as standard on the car. they are circular in design with 3 holes into which goes the adapter for removing.

Problem being these babies are not for coming out, the nut for removing has rounded out the 3 holes in the centre of the nut, so its now getting worse as theres less for it to grip to.

Please please, has anyone any ideas to how to remove these terribly designed nuts?

 

You could try one of those multi-grip socket things( as sold on shopping channels,so I'm told!!)

Or read / heard somewhere there is a gizmo coming out that can remove all sorts of locking wheelnuts. Can't remember what its called but someone on here might know or have a better idea.

You could hammer a socket over the nut.

 

get yourself to a decent tool shop and get a locking wheel nut remover.

Looks like a socket but it's got a sharp tapered left hand thread in it, you put it on the offending wheel nut and turn as if your undoing the nut, let it grip on and crank it up with a decent bar and after a while the tapered thread will lock it into place and the locking nut will undo.

Be warned though to get the nut out of the remover once its off the car you have to grind two flat surfaces on the wheel nut and put it in a clamp and turn the remover as if your doing it up.
I managed to break two vices trying to get the wheel nut out...come to think it's still in there

or like Brun said hammer a socket over the nut, this worked on two of mine.

 

Presuming this aint a locking nut with a decent slippy device around the outside of the key bit in which case wackin sumin on2 outside unlikely 2 help

this hapenned to me last year - in the end it took two of us.

one to push all his weight onto the nut, and me to turn it.

sounds like these are the type with the slippy outer rim like on mine

 

Thanks for your input guys, i didnt manage it today, so im gonna take it to a local mechanical engineering firm nearby and get them to do it.

Hit the center of the nut with a 15mm chisell(sp) then use the inprint with a standard flat screwdriver impact drive,works every time.But the locknuts are in the bin.

PS allways take the other nuts or bolts off first,and give the wheel a few kicks with the sole of you foot,loosens it of a bit.

same happened 2 me a few months ago, tried allsorts but ended up taking it 2 a tyre shop, i made sure they were careful and they got the 2 nuts off in a couple of mins with no damage 2 the alloys, and didnt charge a penny!!

Same has happened on my offside front. Seems that when the garage put my new rim on when changing to Toyos, they tightened it up a tad too much with the old air gun. When I tried to take it off manually to clean the wheel and check brakes, it just slipped and sheared a bit off the locking wheel nut.

Luckily I have a service coming up in March so will get my local dealer to get the ****** off for me and put a decent one back on. Tbh they are a waste of time if any Joe can buy a "general locking wheel nut remover" from Halfords etc. Its not like it drops my insurance at all and it seems loads of people get this problem.
