Im confused as what to do with my car, dont know whether to keep it or to sell it. I went out in my friends Sapphire Cosworth yesterday and drove it for a while. Very nice drive and lovely car. Boost turned up to 17psi, so goes well. Its a 2WD type so was fun with the backend twitching and popping out now and again.

I guess the question im asking is do i keep my car or sell and get a £7k Cosworth to save money. I need a house n stuff and am confused as everytime i look at my RB5 i cant imagine it not being there. Kinda love it that much lol....call me sad but i do.

What do i do??

no confusion here m8. keep the rb5, miles better than the cozzy. as for a house just live in the rb5. problem solved.

Hmm i just think that with like a 7K cossie i can live a little and splash out on mods for the engine rather than save a grand and get 30hp for the RB5. Scoobs are so expensive to tune. Sometimes i love my car but when i think of the power u can get from the cosworth lump it makes me feel sick

lol...yeah my m8 says im going backwards. Cossie first then Scooby not the other way round.

 

I'm thinking of doing the same thing mate, i've had a couple of saphires and i think they're great fun.
My last 4wd handled well actually and the brakes were much better than me scoob, nice leather recaros too.

If it needs to be done for house purchase i'd do it, like someone else said if you realise it was a mistake get a loan on your mortgage later on, if you do you might as well get an Evo

 

I sold my car which was a cossie & the wife's xr21 when we went house hunting.

we go the house & a serria 1.8lx which we kept for 2 years did the house up & then saved up for better cars.
choice is your do you realy need a sports car ? do you really need a house ?

 

Hmm cars always jumpstart my attention and always make me spend money i haven't got lol, same as most of us on here i think! I know what i should do but letting go of the RB5 will be harder than i think. A cossie is a very nice car and in my view i dont think i'll be taking a step backward if i did eventually end up in one.

I'm unsure at this stage whether to sell and go to the dark side, most say keep the RB5 as its a nicer car, i'm sure it is but money is making me think otherwise. I should be more wiser with my funds. Never been one to keep money always burned a hole in my pocket. If i had a fiva i'd spend a fiva type of person. I'm paying for it now tho as im in debt

 

I had to do the same thing mate, sold my Mk2 172(only 6 months old) just before Christmas for money towards a house deposit (Still living with the parents at 24 years old). The way I see it the sooner you move out the sooner you will be able to sort you finances out and afford another decent motor.

Had to settle for a 1.2 Punto Sporting, 8 months old when I got it only £6500. Half the price and running costs of the 172. But still very very slow!!!

rb5 this must be a hard decision but the diff will be £4000 so will that really help?
if so buy a 1.6 sierra gl and be done with it and put more towards you future house
being a fello rb5 wr sport owner good luck in the future but please dont tell us cossies rule whatever you do

i think if you sell your RB5 and are looking at spending 7K on a car you are better off buying another scoob.

you can get a MY95 WRX for that money (260 ps)

had both cossie and scoob..........scoob wins hands down.

oh and if you spend 7k on a cossie you WILL be getting ripped off

 

cossies r gr8 fun but the money u want to pay 4 1 is a lot.

if u want to go the cossie route i'd advise buying a cheap one for about £3k, a high milage one would be ok.

buy a cheap run around for a £1k

u then take the cossie off the road, removing running gear and engine. clean it all up. spend £5k on a 450bhp/400lb torq engine with rs500 intercooler and pectel management.

re-built gearbox and diffs

koni suspension and a rear beam along with poly bushes all round, a set of 17's and sort the anchors out

a total of £8k spent and u will have a gr8 cossie and u'll have some money left over from the sale of the RB5 to clear ur debts.


the fords r so easy to work on compared to the subarus, open the scooby bonnet and i'm lost....

trouble is ur going to an older car tho and as i said 2 u earlier on the phone, even the cossie engines dont last that long when they're tuned up.

i suggest if u do go the cossie route just stick to a safe 330bhp.

both r great cars and real fun, they r different cars

i have been thro the RS era and moved on but theres nought wrong in u going to RS if u havent been there, they r FUN in a different way to the scooby, more set up for all out power!!!

either way i think u will still have a big grin on ur face

Just sold my STI 3, the hardest thing to swallow was the fact that it didnt realise anything like I thought it was worth, the market is crap at the moment. I dont know how you value your car but you might get a shock. However if you are in debt I would sell or buy a cheap runner & take the scoob off the road for a year.

As for me, I've bought a Skoda 4x4, yea I know its a Skoda but 3 Months old, 1400 miles, Audi Quatro running gear, climate control + sun roof, 6 CD changer 3 years AA (NO BLOODY RATTLES) & all for £10500. can be reliably chipped to 225 for about £500 & can be tuned to over 300 bhp if desired. If I dont like it I should'nt loose a lot.
You dont need to spend £20000 + for performance, also hopefully not such a police magnet

 

Yeah i can see where you are all coming from. Its a hard decision to sell my RB5 as i love it so much. If someone offered me the right amount of money only then would i sell. Its not worth me loosong stupid amounts of money when im trying to get myself out of debt.

I'd rather keep the car and somehow manage than get rid of it for measly £££'s. I'll see how it goes i think. Watchful eye on finances and potential buyer for the car!
